This is roughly close to my speed too in my tiny town. We've FINALLY got fibre now. Wooo PLUSNET
bleh, usually its faster, and my upload should be the same
I pay for 50/5 (the maximum here)... TWC doesn't care.
TWC was supposed to upgrade my speeds up to 50 mb/s sometime in May but has actually done fuck all. [sp]I hate this fucking company[/sp]
Story time: Rochester has its own fiber ISP and when I moved in here a few weeks ago, I was told by the landlord "they have service in this area". Well, sure enough, they have service in this zip code, but not to this complex, because the landlord has an agreement with TWC for exclusivity. Unfortunately, that's also not enough reason to break the lease. As a result, there's an interesting quandary - TWC advertises up to 300/30 service for my zip code, but when I go through and try to order, they only offer up to 50/5 for the same price ($65/mo). This complex, among a few other odd buildings, is the only location in this zip code which is ineligible for those good rates and speeds, even though the infrastructure surely exists to support them because I can walk across the parking lot to a private home and they've got TWC's highest-speed rate schedule. Conclusion: TWC only puts in the effort to provide competitive speeds & prices when they have a fiber ISP on their turf. Plus, if they have an exclusivity agreement, they will throttle speeds even if the infrastructure doesn't need it simply because fuck you. (Their 300/30 service for $65/mo is actually a reasonable price, considering the fiber ISP charges $75/mo for 500/50 and $100/mo for 1000/100.) I have a friend nearby who has fiber, though, and I cry every time I visit :suicide:
Kill me. I was recently downgraded to 12mbps from 18 because my line can't handle 18. It's too far away and it was causing problems. I COULD change to comcast. but fuck them, they're worse than att in their own way.
Us Ameripoors are stuck under the bootheels of a monopoly that refuses to innovate. I am stuck under copper cable with this:
I live in the middle of the midwest, and we have 1Gbit and 10Gbit residential service available (10Gbit NKC only). Google fiber alone forced the rest of the ISPs to innovate. AT&T struggles a lot. TWC has 300Mbit service, Comcast I think has 100Mbit service. Google is just really tough to compete with, since for $70 you get 1Gbit/s. If google sooner or later pushes out to more places, more ISP's will be forced to change their pricing models, and speeds in order to compete. But this will be many years down the road since fiber infrastructure is expensive and time consuming.

I'll never use that much but it was ONLY 15 dollars more expensive than 100mbits

I do enjoy watching 2k/4k video clips, and saying to myself, Oh thats just using 80Mbit. The overhead is brilliant. I dont know why we're trying to push 10Gbit ethernet out here though. I mean, sure it'll be the fastest residential line in the world. But the hardware required to run that is ridiculous.
