AK47, the M-16 will jam if even the slightest amount of sand gets inside it. With the AK47 you can run it over a bunch of times with a jeep and it'll still work.
The first statement is incorrect and based off assumptions and you're not going to purposely run over a gun multiple times with a car or tank anyways or bury it in mud unless you really, really don't care about the thing the piece of metal that's critical to your survival in any combat situation
AK-47 for sheer reliability
"AK-47. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no substitutes." The one who knows which movie this is from, gets a cookie!
I think most of the people here are just saying what they here on documentaries, read on wikipeidia, or worse yet from video games and have not actually fired both weapons and could not really give a personal preference to either gun.
yeh, ak47 is so cool in css xDDDD
I went with the M16 simply because it is not a weapon loved by every 10 year old who ever played CoD 4 or CS:S, and hey guys, guess what! The M16 can fire fully automatically!
AK47 has the killing ability and reliability, M16 just has accuracy. But both suffer from intermediate cartridges, any 7.62x51mm rifle is superior by far.
I prefer the AK. Mostly because of its badassness.
AK, hands down. I'm just too lazy to clean shit up, so i'd prefer the AK. Sure it'll go shittier if it gets all dirty, but it WORKS.
AK47 has the killing ability and reliability, M16 just has accuracy. The 5.56x45mm has more killing power as the bullet tumbles on impact and tears through, this is much deadlier than simply having a bullet stuck or even passing straight through.
Neither. Guns are only useful for being models in video games.

[editline]08:14PM[/editline]
I pick AK47, as I don't like the plastic look of M16. Wood and metal. Yeah. I am judging them only by how they look, as it's only thing I can precisely judge. I never had any of these two in my hands. Gun holding is very strict in there.
This is one of the few good reasons in this thread. Congrats, bro. I have fired neither, however, I am basing my opinion on the experiences of people I trust. [editline]08:15PM[/editline]
Add some H&K guns up there. Come on! Those german weapon put shitty American gun to shame. Guns were the only thing Russians got right.
In before Germans but bullets in their magazines backwards.
I would want an AK over a M16,just because i would want something simple and don't need to worry about as much. M16 you need to clean more often, but it will still work a bit dirty like many guns. Ak since it has more tolerance wouldn't have as many problems not being cleaned for a while. Sure the m16 is more accurate, but who really needs to shoot 500 meters, when for the most part you would be shooting across a street or down one at best. m16 would be much better in an open field due to it's accuracy, the AK is a little better in urban areas due to it's larger round. It matters more who is using it as well.
AK 47. Its like, 100 times more durable and takes less than half the time to field strip it. AK wins in power, durability, cost, simplicity, and abundance. M16 wins in Accuracy and ROF.
The M16 (and its civilian variant, the AR15) is more accurate and has the same reliability when properly maintained and cleaned. Now all you idiots can say that AKs never need to be cleaned; but if you don't, you can't aim for shit. Thus the M16 is better; higher ROF, more controllable recoil, lighter ammo, and a lighter weapon overall. Plus, the M16 has better ergonomics and is better suited for left-handed shooters than the AK is.
The M16 (and its civilian variant, the AR15) is more accurate and has the same reliability if it is an AK47.
Fixed
Ak47, reliable.
Can't I choose the AR-10? Same platform, bigger round, and... more fun. Besides, what situation are we in here? Plinking? CQB? Or just in general?
"AK-47. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no substitutes." The one who knows which movie this is from, gets a cookie!
Pulp Fiction
Ak-47, for its shear badassicity.
M16, it's more accurate on far range isn't it?
I wouldn't be able to tell the models apart.
YOU might not be able to but there are several features distinguishing the Vietnam era M16s from the modern A4s. 1: M16/M16A1 has a triangular handguard 2: M16A4 has a top rail system, from which the ironsights/carrying handle are detachable and replaceable with different optics 3: Again, rails along the A4's handguard where heat shields (among other accessories) can be mounted. M16A2/A3s have cylindrical handguards and their carrying handles are part of the receiver. As you can probably tell, I'd pick the M16(A4). Accuracy, customisability, plus reloading is less of a farce. [editline]10:26AM[/editline]
The M16 can fire fully automatically!
Only the original and the A3. Oh, and another thing. A lot of the original M16's reliability problems were due to poor maintenance by soldiers in Vietnam.
M16. AK looks like shit.
I fired both weapons, and I'd pick the M16/AR-15. It feels better, it is more accurate, and damn. It looks quite nice. The AK-47 I fired overheated on me, had crude sights which made it kinda hard to hit stuff, and it jammed.
Say, if we go into M16Ax, we might as well go into various rifles and machineguns based on AK. Fun times.
AK47 has the killing ability and reliability, M16 just has accuracy. But both suffer from intermediate cartridges, any 7.62x51mm rifle is superior by far.
Ak fires 7.62X39. So they both suck eh?
AK47 has the killing ability and reliability, M16 just has accuracy. But both suffer from intermediate cartridges, any 7.62x51mm rifle is superior by far.
The AK47 fires the 7.62x39 cartridge, 7.62x51 is the NATO cartridge that is used in the M14 and M240 to name a couple of weapons. [editline]04:59PM[/editline]
Say, if we go into M16Ax, we might as well go into various rifles and machineguns based on AK. If you're talking things like the AKS, AKM(S) and Type56, go for it, but that's about the extent of it.

Voted AK47 AK-107 if to be honest
Voted AK47 AK-107 if to be honest
AK107 =/= AK47. Different calibres so it doesn't really work.
I'd consider AKMs a machinegun, to an extent.
It's as much of a machinegun as the AK47 is, the AKMs is just an AKM with a folding stock. The RPK-47 is the LMG variant.
