What's the difference between the people in your country than the people in someone elses country?
I'm not referring to 2 countries deciding "Oh hey, let's have a whack at each other!", i'm referring only to defending against an invasion. Our military is primary equipped for defence, and that being the only reason we still have conscription.
Been in the Irish RDF for 2 years now, great fun and good pay.
No I'm not, why would I support this bullshit of a "country". Romania shouldn't be a country. It's a shithole.
I've applied to the TA to test the water, though I'm a woman so I'd be doing less shooting and more cooking.

How it's meant to be. Make food, not war.

In the Irish army its equal opportunity so women and men serve along side each other. What country are you from?

Territorial Army, so that would mean UK if I remember correctly.

Correct Sir.
So women can fight on the front line then Mabus? Interesting.
Ah well I am sure you will have a great time anyway,
Ah well I am sure you will have a great time anyway,
Well, I've yet to set my foot in the doorway - so I'll see how that goes, but lets hope so.
I'm joining within the next year or so, depending on whether or not I finish my A levels. I'd hate to be conscripted like you nordic types.
Also, you don't have to be pro-war or support whatever current conflict we're in to join the military. It doesn't necessitate you actually killing people, you could have a different role such as logistics, medics etc.
and it's not the only logical way to defend a nation. there's this interesting idea called diplomacy I heard about. maybe people should give that a try.
Well no shit; that's the first course of action for any sane country, especially Finland. If diplomacy fails to halt an invasion, all that is left is war.
I'm joining the U.S. Army after I graduate. I want to and besides, it's the only career that I'm cut out for that I can also have some respect for. You don't get a lot of respect when your flipping burgers or stocking shelves with beer.
But first, I have to gain at least 20 pounds. That's what my local recruiter told me. I guess the Army doesn't take lightweights.
Yeah, that's what I want to do if I join the military. Be a medic.
there's this interesting idea called diplomacy I heard about. maybe people should give that a try.
Yeah, I agree with Sgt Doom. It figures that diplomacy can only really work if both countries are firstly diplomatic, even then a compromise has to be made, and when the conflict is between land, particularly Holy land or religious disputes, people are even less likely to back down, because everyone's religion is the "true" religion.
And of course, there's always extremism, drilled into a good few brains while majority poor folk are suppressed and of course, they don't have the money or even the education to do shit, not to mention they can be threatened with their lives at stake.
I don't know loads about history, world events or politics, but I can be sure that it's not as simple as 'peace talks', some people don't always want peace when there's money involved.
As much as any of you argue that violence is only used as a last resort in your country's politics, it's very unlikely they exhaust absolutely every kind of diplomacy. The truth is that their politics have armies and ideals of war built into them. The conflict in the middle east is totally unjustifiable.
Diplomacy breaks down when the compromise isn't deemed good enough by either party. The only way to settle it is either war or one side letting the other get what they want, which wouldn't happen.
Going to do my education in Norway as "Kystjeger". Going to send in my application in May, and hope to get accepted.

This was the most true phrase said on page 3.

Because I'm going to do something else with my life makes me a fag. You're a dickhead.
Hurr duurr lets be puppets of the government and go kill innocent people and steal their oil. Being in the army isn't that cool these days guys.

now go say that to the faces of family members that lost their husbands/sons/daughters in war

Yet that's kinda a stupid thing to say.
Unfortunately, I am joining the military. Not the Army or Marines, but the Air Force. The Air Force offers more educational services than the standing military of the marines and army, and they'll help pay for my college, so it's a win-win. Besides, they can't make my fly anything, I have bad vision.
Edit: I live in the USA.

I read that as 'More bombs, more results'
That's also codename for 'Fuck bitches, get money'
I'll get a lot of dumbs for this probably, but if i am going into the military, i don't care why we will fight, as long as we get to fight. Every time i got into a fight i kind of felt relaxed, like i was back at home. That tension and the angry look in the eyes of an opponent, punching an uppercut straight at that juicy jaw and feeling it hit was almost like ecstasy. If i go to war, it will be to kill, not defend.
Maybe i am crazy. But hell, if this is being crazy, it's not half bad.

Pretty much this.
If it were to defend my country, I would, but who is going to invade Australia?
