I'm going to say yes now but in reality I would probably pussy out and then not do it and just live in perpetual guilt for the rest of my life.
It depends on who they are.
I have a boyfriend to take care of, so no. But if I didn't have him, I probably would.
And what Johnny said.
What is wrong with you people?
Don't know. I haven't read all the posts but I'm pretty sure people have said both yes and no to the OP's question therefore your question is pretty stupid.
Will they know that they lived because of me?
You will not know if they know that they lived because of you so it wouldn't really matter :)
Will they know that they lived because of me?
Depends on the people I'm saving.
I'd kill 1000 people to save myself.
Think about it, it's 1000 people. Shit, that's a lot, vote yes
Yes.

There is no afterlife, if your not alive to experience them it doesn't matter if they live or die.
Yes, just to give a big fuck you to survival instinct.
You kill thousands everyday just by paying your taxes and contributing to the US govt or buying something from a multinational corporation. No point in saving 1000, when you have already indirectly killed millions.
i am proud of this
No. I am selfish when it comes to life and death.
I don't understand how anybody can say no to be honest :S
1 life in place of 1000, I think the answer of pretty obvious... of course I would. 1000 lives is a lot of lives, and having to live with the guilt of knowing you had the opportunity to save 1000 people and didn't would be terrible.
As long as the people were "innocent" (as innocent as anyone who lives in North America/today's world goes), and that I would be recognized for my sacrifice.
Yes, as long as my death is quick and painless.
Fuck helping humans
nope cause i would be the guy killing the 1000 lives
[editline]20th January 2011[/editline]
and half the people that say they would wont there bloody pussy's
If everyone who voted was put into a situation where this was true 108,000 people would die...
since I already live a shit life with a family that barely even loves me I would make a simple heroic action of killing myself to save more people, I never really liked my miserable life anyways, but killing myself to save 1000 people would be very honourable.
I'd send Bobby Kotick to pretend to be me instead
ugh
it depends on who's lives are being taken away. is it people that caused their own death? are any of the people rapists or murders? are any of the people very small children or very old adults?
Voted yes but it depends, it can't be so simple.
Descartes FTW
Yes, what is one life compared to 1000?

I don't know why you would feel guilty unless the arising of the situation that forced the decision were in some way your fault.
for example,
You join a terrorist organization planning to set off a nuke in a densely populated city, however you are conflicted about your decision,
A)You can either leave the nuke to explode and kill the 1000 random innocent people (with you escaping to safety)
or
B)Testify against your terrorist comrades to the CIA, but you know that if you do this a hit will definitely be put out on you and your organizations assassins are renowned for never missing their mark.
In this situation I think it would make sense to feel guilty about letting the 1000 die, because it was your positive actions, and will that caused the people to be killed.
However I see no reason to feel guilty if for example, one of the aformentioned terrorists were to run up to you on the street shouting "COMMIT SUICIDE IMMEDIATLY OR I KILL 1000 PEOPLE" in that situation it is the terrorist, not you who is at fault and would have reason to feel guilty. You can't be blamed for not going along with the crazy scheme they hatched.
I think the idea of a man putting a gun to your head and commanding you to yourself shoot other people is similar, in that even if you did shoot the people the first gunman told you to, it was their actions not yours that caused their death, you were only an unwilling pawn in the scenario and ultimately moral blame is not yours.
If it's a thousand Taliban members, then no. Random people around the world; yes.
