The problem were that the humans acted like assholes because they were too afraid of the monsters powers. (Which I do understand.)
She managed to get a ship sinking ghost that she were sent to exterminate, to become the captain of a ship, she also managed to get monsters and humans to use said ship together.
Equal rights as in not being shunned by society because you are born differently, even(mostly) if you mean no harm.
