(is basically the only NPC who seems friendly and not weird and mysterious as fuck in a land that hates you where you don't belong at all, he also helps you with boss fights and stuff if you summon him.)
(He also throws fucking lightning bolts and apparently he learned all of his badass skills through just pure training.)

Why the hell did he save that city?
He was quite literally born into a war. As a natural killing machine no less. He saw the human dark at its darkest at every turn. Betrayed by people he trusted twice. Filled the blanks by absorbing tons of memories from Blackwatch, which are extremely jaded assholes with a "no bullshit, no tolerance, no risks" policy at best and nazi psychos at worst. Inside this hell, there was nobody he should have cared about aside from Dana maybe, and even that bond turned out to be fake and based on second-hand-memories.
And yet his character development goes from "muh revenge" to "must save city even if I blow myself up". In fact, he's completely and utterly disgusted at what Mercer did, no matter his whistleblower intentions or that without Mercer he'd never been born. Even goes beyond that and decides to shoulder Mercer's sins as his own in acknowledging him as part of himself. In addition to that guilt, he's also talking about (possibly quite literally) having to forever relive the moments of thousands of people dying by his hand.
Anyway, to grow that kinda backbone and moral consciousness from scratch under the most fucked up of circumstances definitely earns an entry on my list. I just segregate him in the storyline from "he who throws tanks at random old ladies" so I can enjoy both aspects for entirely different reasons.
I also do my best to pretend Prototype 2 ever happened.

Marius Leitdorf, I just love him. He's the Count of Averland, and he's literally insane. Throughout his rule, he has declared war on bees, spiders, trees, imaginary fish men, and singlehandedly caused the Bretonnians to invade the Empire. He hardly consults his advisors, preferring the advice of his horse, Daisy Kurt Von Helboring III. Not to mention he's strong as a motherfucker in combat.
And, of course, Gotrek. What's not to like about Gotrek?
