& religion
I don't really mind religion as much (mostly because it seems like I am one of the more religious people around where I live) But whenever I hear somebody say that space exploration isn't important I just want to punch that person

It annoys me because that would incredibly stunt the growth of progress and undermine the work of many credible people. religion has its place and science has its place, know what i mean? religion is to church as science is to school and it should stay that way.
Societal Problems you want solved
um all of them?
overall selfishness, like ive met millionaires that just use and abuse people to get their way, people go after their own interests without thinking about the people they are impacting. also i guess minding one's own buisness, the entire lobby industry exists to erode the foundation of the goverment at least today. they outspend and penetrate into every circle of the goverment to make sure their personal views are enforced with the full force of the goverment. this attitude i guess traces back to prohibition era when people decided they could use the goverment to enforce their views, and look how well america reacted to that, the same is true with the abortion lobby, the anti-gay lobby, the NRA, the NAACP to some extent. most americans are in favor of abortion, gun control, and such but rarely does public opinion reflect goverment policy anymore. as long as someone isnt doing something destructive to other people, then the goverment, and others have no right to interfere with them, same goes when various religions collide in fact a recent study showed that no matter what the public opinion level, there was only a 30% chance for lawmakers to move on public opinion, while the more acceptable a policy was to wealthy groups, the more chance that policy would be made on it. [editline]10th April 2014[/editline] can't leave this thread without mentioning the deep mistrust of science vaccines should have eliminated mesles and mumps, treatable disseases should be treated, and importantly when the large body of academia says that something is happening or something is bad, it means that they are not part of some secrete plot to take power, its because they are trying to help people. the fight for creationism to be recognised as a theory is bullshit and would never have been allowed 60 years ago, nor would any of this anti-vaccine shit because people back then knew the terrible price of polio and smallpox and they eliminated one, and vaccinated the other out of the industrialised world. the push against science even goes up to the top, it affects scientific progress, not since kenedy did we have a president who had the gall to say we CHOOSE to go to the moon, we CHOOSE to go to space, only one president ever witnessed a shuttle launch, and that was because it was a PR blitz about sending john glenn up, nobody in politics wants to stand up for science, theyd rather have the votes of their constituency and the money from their lobbies instead, the only reason the shuttle survived was because it provided shittons of pork jobs across the country because of its ludicrisly spread out production and maintenance infrastructure. the only reason why we have men in space right now is because of a commitment that took decades for scientists and policy makers to hash out, yet we can pass healthcare or stimulus funds on the same level of cash without even reading the fucking bills. the more we push against science, the more we doom ourselves to a bleak future, because without things like polio vaccines, we'd have millions dead and tens of millions crippled, without the space shuttle, our medicines wouldn't work nearly as well, without apollo, we wouldn't have understood the moon and the effects it has on our planet, without science we wouldn't be able to see the heart of matter, and understand the universe
I wish the majority of America had better taste in music.
The thing with "Just sitting behind your computer" that some people seem to have. Jesus Christ it's annoying. Also the idea that sitting in front of your computer === being really good at it.
more like removal of tumblr feminists
The removal of detrimental slacktivism in general.
I wish the majority of America had better taste in music.
Oh my God people have different tastes in music than me, the horror! I don't like pop music either, but if that's your thing then cool.
I wish the majority of America had better taste in music.
shut up
shut up
Maybe I should rephrase that to, "I'm tired of hearing FoReal Williams on the radio all the time and on every channel I flip to."
Maybe I should rephrase that to, "I'm tired of hearing FoReal Williams on the radio all the time and on every channel I flip to."
Don't listen to the radio? No shit the radio's gonna play what's popular, if you don't like what's popular just listen to your own stuff.
I wish people weren't so intolerant towards Religious people
I wish religions weren't so intolerant.
I wish religions weren't so intolerant.
But he's talking about the people? Contrary to popular belief, not every religious person is a raging homophobe. You can be a decent person and religious, it's not impossible.
Intolerance, and therefore by extent discrimination of any kind. Let people live their lives, for fuck's sake. It doesn't harm you.
But he's talking about the people? Contrary to popular belief, not every religious person is a raging homophobe. You can be a decent person and religious, it's not impossible.
And I specifically wasn't talking about the people. I was trying to say that there just happens to be some fairly divisive and hateful stuff tucked away in a lot of religious doctrines which can be exploited by an extremist minority. I'm well aware that there are many tolerant and open people who happen to be religious, because i'm not a tard.
Young adults who try too hard at being hip and edgy, AKA your stereotypical douchebag
Maybe I should rephrase that to, "I'm tired of hearing FoReal Williams on the radio all the time and on every channel I flip to."
To be fair, Happy is a really good song; this is coming from someone who listens to a little of everything. He also helped make "Drop It Like It's Hot" so you can't hate him.
a big problem is responsibility in teenage years. I mean toward the end of high school, you make decisions (college, jobs) that will affect your whole life, yet we arent trusted enough to go use the bathroom without asking. theres also intolerance (AND THIS GOES BOTH WAYS). If you are a democrat or republican, then fine, have your arguments, but be respectful (just one example) young dating is another issue. I can personally say I see "relationships" forming in elementary schools, when these kids cant add fractions yet. children seem to want to grow up so quickly, that they miss out on half their childhood, and it saddens me that these kids are thinking about kissing and stuff when they should be talking about super mario or playing with each other on the playground. sorry for my rant there
We have a huge problem with scientific illiteracy in the USA. Basic concepts such as the scientific method and theory vs. hypothesis have to be covered in college level science courses.
I wish the guys in the corners would just sell real rolexs
I wish that America wouldn't sexualize everything about the female body, and then making school dress codes against everything sexualized on a female body. Yoga pants are banned in one school in my district.
I wish that America wouldn't sexualize everything about the female body, and then making school dress codes against everything sexualized on a female body. So I kinda get the point, but it's still fucking hot though.
Yoga pants are banned in one school in my district.
Oh my god, you poor soul. I'm serious, nobody should have to put up with such cruelty.
People who trade in games after they beat them.
Encyclopedia Dramatica.
I wish people would stop saying that it is ok for someone to hold an opinion and then try to make them change it. I don't really care what the opinion is, it just bothers me when I see someone say it
Wish we could get rid of nationalism. If people dropped their pride and embraced globalization we'll all come together quicker. I honestly think most people wouldn't mind a federal world state as long as it doesn't turn out "corrupted" like America or Russia. I know this isn't politically correct, but look at income equality and distribution of wealth...
