While it would be nice to have gold, I don't rush things as you can see on my meager post count and pretty bad posts.
I think gold members tend to have worse post than non-golds on average*, could just be that golds post more but most of them seem to be on borderline shitposting on certain threads. *Plenty of good gold users, and plenty of shitposting non-golds
sounds like something a blue member would say...
While it would be nice to have gold, I don't rush things as you can see on my meager post count and pretty bad posts.
The only good things about being a gold member is [REDACTED].
While it would be nice to have gold, I don't rush things as you can see on my meager post count and pretty bad posts.
the rise of nu facepunch is coming, and us blues will be left in the dust! we must pound out our shitposts and get that golden nametag to secure our regal status in the new age!
I'm sick of games set in the future/near future setting
I'm sick of games set in the future/near future setting
i think horizon: zero dawn's post-post-apocalyptic setting is interesting
I don't like popular science, I can't even pinpoint why. Maybe I'm just elitist.
I don't like popular science, I can't even pinpoint why. Maybe I'm just elitist.
i don't really mind it as a concept, to get people interested in science when they normally wouldn't be. though in reality more often than not it seems to draw in people who aren't actually too interested in the subject but like to pretend they're experts on it.
I'm sick of games set in the future/near future setting
Honestly I feel like there could be more games set in the modern day that aren't modern military shooters...
I'm sick of games set in the future/near future setting
And the games disappear up their own ass with made up technical garble and futuristic gadgets, and it's just used as a clichéd filler instead of a clever story being there.
I believe that pure harsh forced labour should be brought back for prisoners. Regardless of what you have done, whether it was rape, murder or even something as simple as stealing. I feel if there were real harsh stories about prisons out now like the horror stories you heard back 50+ years ago, a lot less crime would be committed. The reason i bring this up is that someone i used to know has just had his dad released from prison along with his cousin after a year and a half. They now look better than ever, they've gained some serious muscle mass, they have been eating a lot better, and they've been given some free housing for the first year as long as they don't break their probation and find a job before then, they also get a decent sum of money a month for food/recreation. I saw my old mates status on facebook about how it was basically a holiday for them 2, 3 meals a day, exercise whenever they want, they even had TV for several hours a day. Like wtf, and here's me, educated, struggling to make ends meet sometimes a month. I knew what his dad and cousin were like, they were horrible people. The system is FUCKED.
so you want them to be miserable even though they've already served their time?
Of course not, i just think that theres far less consequences to imprisonment nowdays. Prison should be a place that you should be scared to go to. Not a place with much better facilities than a lot of places outside of it. Theres that statement where they say that prisoners get treated better than old people in homes, and if i'm going from experience from how my granddad was treated in a home, it definitely can't be worse. [editline]31st August 2016[/editline]
If it's so great, why not get yourself arrested and thrown in prison, then?
That was a really dumb thing to say.... I'm not going to go to prison because i'm a good person, i won't kill or rape or steal etc... it's not in my blood. And i think that if people do rape, kill, steal, they should be ACTUALLY punished for it.
Because fear of breaking laws is totally better than trying to solve conditions that cause law breaking right?
Because fear of breaking laws is totally better than trying to solve conditions that cause law breaking right?
Surely fear of breaking laws will stop people breaking laws in the first place though? If you were scared that you were going to die or get tortured for doing something illegal, it may just convince that person to not do it. This is an unpopular opinion thread after all so i knew i was going to get some backlash from this.
Not really, if somebody feels like he has nothing to lose, he'll break the law anyway But if he has nothing to gain, he will surely follow the law
But they will have something to lose, their sanity and the fear of how shit it would be to go to prison if it was such a fearful place would be the thing to lose though.
You do realize that for the vast majority of history cultures tended to have ridiculously steep penalties for most crimes and that it didn't actually really help with crime rates at all, right?
I didn't know that, i would love to read about this though, do you know of a source of this information? Would be good to read tonight haha.
But they will have something to lose, their sanity and the fear of how shit it would be to go to prison if it was such a fearful place would be the thing to lose though.
...not if they have nothing to lose x2

i think it was for a state in midwest america, where the introduction of the death penalty caused a drop in crime rates for a short time before it reverted to exactly what it was before edit: merge
I didn't know what, i would love to read about this though, do you know of a source of this information?
...not if they have nothing to lose x2
Then we're getting on the verge or psychotic breakdowns and suicide
Then we're getting on the verge or psychotic breakdowns and suicide
I doubt major players in the criminal world would be scared to go to prison, they probably have connections to make their stay just fine
how do you know it's so pleasant if you've never been?
At work we've been talking about Imprisonment and the majority of us came to the conclusion that its just too tame now. Our Senior Designer brought in a book about the life of prisoners which is what lead to the discussion and he was telling me about the gist of the book, i think it was called "No pillows, but still not bad" (or something on those lines, didn't take a good look at the cover). I got really interested so i started reading things about prisons being to soft.
