Disregarding the weird idea that taking home a paycheck from your own company is somehow immoral... in what way are government contracts and rewards invalid as a source of income? This isn't welfare we're talking about, this is business available to anyone willing to fulfill a technology need.
It's not invalid. But it makes holding him up as a moral capitalist who is saving humanity hilarious because what he's doing is literally enabled by the government and is still being used to greatly enrich himself (while his workers take shit wages and long hours.) What gains are made are privatized, what losses there are are spread across the rest of us. At least NASA didn't do that IIRC. Also before you mention the patents, that uses vague wording and can be retracted at any time. It's also not a need, electric cars and solar cells are a band-aid for our general tendency to use resources inefficiently. There's many other resources we're just plunging through as well such as phosphorous, water, etc..
Not all fan-fiction is awful. True a lot of fan-fic garnering attention is garbage, but there are some good pieces of writing; It's just hard to find and in some cases places you'd never think to look. There was one that I was eyeing but never got a chance to pick it up yet.
ArmA 2 at its height was better than ArmA 3 in almost every way but clunkiness and netcode. Better maps, better combat, and better multiplayer servers.
Well the contrary (making the statement "all fan-fiction is awful") is not really an "opinion", more an assumption. So I wouldn't say that's an opinion any less popular than the topic itself
It just seems like a general idea that when someone brings up Fan-Fiction its usually awful. I don't remember anyone referring good fanfics unless you actually went and judged some of them yourself. Hell one of my favorite comic writers got into the industry for writing this huge TF fan fic that broke the idea of what Transformers was about. http://www.tfarchive.com/fandom/features/eugenesis/
Lots of movies and games might technically fall under fanfiction too. E.g. lots of star wars games like jedi outcast. A lot of that shit isn't canon but they pretty much licensed the ability to create their own fanfiction.
I think it's perfectly fine for a game to not be overtly violent, even if it's a shooter or a similar genre. I don't really care if a game is violent or not, but there are some games I've see where people don't like how there's little to no blood or gore when you attack people.
Return of the Jedi was kinda mediocre compared to the other Star Wars movies, not counting the prequels. Felt really disjointed. Had great moments, but nothing on the same level as Empire Strikes Back, and the Endor scenes with the ewoks were pretty annoying.
Pretty popular among star wars nerds actually. Perhaps not general population though. I really liked that one cut scene where it shows the imperial officer is really struggling with the command to destroy the planet, along with his fellow soldiers on it. Served as a really nice the empire is falling apart moment.
I think it's perfectly fine for a game to not be overtly violent, even if it's a shooter or a similar genre. It just happens that blood and gore are one of the easiest ways to provide it
I think it might not be the blood/gore itself, but the impact of their weapons. Like Doom 4 and Bloodborne are games that use violence as a nice way of feedback and also fits with the tone and style of those games. But I don't think games like Overwatch need people gibbing or have blood everywhere, just because they're shooting at each other.
I have yet to play a popular FPS game that feels as shitty and laggy as BF4 does. Hardline is BF4, except done correctly. Shame no one plays it.
BF4 had server tickrate, flinch animations, moving scope reticles, and some other stuff fixed since release and it's a much better game now. The DLC maps are also better.
yeah I don't get it because I can play ArmA 3 and that game feels great, feels very realistic, but BF4 just feels like i'm firing a turd out of an ass cannon
Battlefield assault rifles have muzzle velocities around 500-650 m/s and an exaggerated gravity of 15m/s^2 while real rifles and Arma rifles are around 900-1000 m/s.
Castle Fight>Dota, at least from play if not watch. It's just a lot less developed than dota and that's it's problem.
Return of the Jedi was kinda mediocre compared to the other Star Wars movies, not counting the prequels. Felt really disjointed. Had great moments, but nothing on the same level as Empire Strikes Back, and the Endor scenes with the ewoks were pretty annoying.
Yeah the first half-hour on Tatooine has pretty much nothing to do with the rest of the movie. Felt like the filmmakers were like "oh shit we need to get Han back and wrap up that plotline before we can start with the actual movie". Luke's plan to rescue him doesn't make sense either unless he read the script. And then yeah everything on Endor is kinda bad.
The landing on Geonosis was pretty cool in Attack of the Clones
too bad the attack of the clones lasts like 5 minutes the rest of the movie is fairly inconsequential.
They should remake the prequels. Keep the good parts, Keep the stuff that leads on into the clone wars, cause that was a fantastic series, and otherwise redo everything else differently. Remakes would be better for films that had potential but failed than they are for films that we loved. You're still going to see butthurt about the remakes, but that's inconsequential to the amount of genuine interest for a fixed series.
also just cause the prequels are inferior to the original trilogy i dont think they should be shunned at all.
they should be shunned because there was practically only one guy in charge of the entire creative process and he had loads of terrible and boring ideas
yea i wish the entire thing was 5 minutes i actually can barely remember anything in hindsight, and im not even motivated to research the episode. i remember they were on kamino, then they were on geonosis, then i saw count dooku, then the movie ended
you're forgetting the best part, when anakin slaughters women and children and padme literally doesn't care. for all of The Phantom Menace's problems, at least it makes more logical sense than anything in Attack of the Clones. Sure, the characters more often than not are dumb, but at least they almost all have some sort of purpose or reason for doing what they do. The story makes logical sense, even if it's boring as hell and is dumb at certain parts. In attack of the clones, things just happen. people act dumb, they don't care about anything that happens around them. Anakin can slaughter women and children and padme has no real reaction. Or like, Obi-Wan's supreme stupidity of "where is the planet on this map everything says it should be here but there's an empty spot on the map" and instead of just going to see what the fuck is there he has to ask FUCKING CHILDREN WHAT TO DO. And can't forget how much Anakin hates sand, even though he spends most of the movie on planets with sand. [editline]7th October 2016[/editline] like tbh one of the biggest issues with the prequels is the entire pacing the trilogy. By setting TPM so far back they fuck up the pacing of the other two (not to mention killing a villain they could have expanded on in the rest of the trilogy). Like, the clone wars should have started in The Phantom Menace, the 2nd part should have been the war ravaging the galaxy and as a result this helps start Anakin's path to the dark side, and then part 3 should have 100% been rise of the empire/vader. Not the war starting at the end of part 2 with nothing of real consequence happening in the two prior movies.
jokes aside; do you mean episode three where he kills the younglings? i thought in episode 2 his killing is somewhat justified. again i actually legitimately forgot about this ENTIRE movie and only am just remembering the fact he killed whoever killed his guardians (?) just now
nah in episode 2 when he kills the tusken raider women and children. i dont blame you for forgetting it, nothing memorable really happens. [editline]7th October 2016[/editline] just look how much padme cares at 34 seconds
Fellowship of the Ring > Return of the King
Is that an unpopular opinion? Most laud the Fellowship as being the strongest due to the nature of it's exposition. Unless I've mine under a stone.
god thats fucking shit, the entire dialogue between these two is so easily summed up by the hating sand dialogue that this stuff is so irrelevant
Part of the reason is that we barely actually KNOW these characters. Like, Anakin's mother was in Episode 1, but that's it. She was just there. She had not real character or substance - not to mention she's barely in it. Padme at that point was in two movies, and we still barely know her as a character. There's no real personality behind her or Anakin, and Anakin as an adult has only been in that one movie at that point. Nothing they do has any sort of emotional impact, or impact on the story. So when Shmi Skywalker dies in Episode 2 there's absolutely no emotional investment or reaction. Just an "oh, she's dead I guess and anakin is now very mad". Contrast this with Episode 7, while not being a perfect movie it still does a lot right that makes it a fun and good movie. You get to actually KNOW the new characters, they have feelings and character and chemistry. For example, Rey is reluctant to take on any real responsibility, but at the end realizes she must in order to save her friends and the galaxy. You're invested in both the villain (Kylo Ren and his character, probably my favorite from TFA) AND the hero, it makes their fight that much more exciting and interesting and you actually get invested in it. What's Anakin's arc in ATOC? Irresponsible Jedi to Irresponsible Jedi who's also has some anger issues. Count Dooku? You barely get to know him before the fight and he's just generic evil old guy. The entire movie is just an irrelevant excuse to sell toys and show fancy special effects. Like it legitimately baffles me that there are people who think the prequels are better movies than TFA.
Right on, guy. Mostly agree with what you said; the LotR trilogy are definitely my favorite films. It's absolutely timeless, and a plateau for it's genre. Everything from the acting to the pacing is just perfect.

DLC maps?? you shouldn't have to buy DLC to play good maps. evidently DICE must not have liked what they did with BF4 because Hardline and now BF1 feel totally different. [editline]7th October 2016[/editline] also, the muzzle velocities thing is interesting. why would they exaggerate the physics?
Pop psychology is way worse and more harmful than pop science.
i don't understand why people hate The Crew so much, i quite like it tbh
Pop psychology is way worse and more harmful than pop science.
I wouldn't even say pop science is terribly harmful, usually it's not overtly incorrect, just a bit simple and leaving out a lot of stuff. And if you don't count global warming denial and anti-vacc shit as pop science (I dunno if I would) then it's not really harmful at all. A lot of the psychology shit just flies far away from the evidence
A short quick list of things I'm not a Thrump nor Hillary supporter but I will discuss my unpopular opinions on politics and the state of the government. I think the recent tape of him that got leaked where he says sexual jokes about a certain woman is being completely overblown. I thought the quotes where pretty bad until I seen the actual tape. He was a little overboard but nothing like the hype made it seem. Thrump is a complete fuckboi but he isn't hitler either, and he shouldnt be compare to the most evil human in history that kill millions just because he says dumb racist shit. I seen some thrump related threads in SH where posters would say shit like "if you are not voting hillary you are voting in a facist dictatorship and the united states will explode!" We got a fucking congress, we got a supreme court and we got the people. Being president doesnt make you the king of the country theres checks and balances. Thrump wouldn't be able to do half the shit he promises. If Obama had the power some of you guys think Thrump will get we would have universial healthcare already and lots of good stuff. After that said, thrump would make a horrible president. Most likely the worst ever. The united states wouldn't be taken seriously in the geopolitical world with thrump as our leader. There needs to be a term limit for congress. Bacon is over-rated. Carrot cake is under-rated There is nothing wrong with most fast foods aslong as you eat within your required calorie intake and macros. Every non-violent drug offender should be pardon and released from prisions with their records punged. Cops shouldn't be able to turn off their cameras. College is a huge scam that most have to partake in due to the pressures of current society. Students should organize themselves to fight back against this. Prosititution should be legal and regulated by the government. This would keep women safe, lower STDs, and become a huge dent in organized crime such as mexican cartels. Our news media is comprimised. They attempt to brainwash us by forcing narratives. They try to forced a change in the way people thinks. Consumer culture is wasting some of us. I'm 21 and I see people more concern with brand names and fuckbois on TV than anything else. Not really most people but a large percent is wasting away grinding and jobs they hate so they can buy pointless shit to increase their status. "Oh man I got so much debt I can't even move out my parents." Well first off instead of getting a car you can afford you gotten a lease for a car you wont be able to own for 5 years. Oh you just needed to spent 200 on a pair of shoes? This also goes for rich people, upper middle class and hell even most middle class. You hear these people making $300,000 a year being in debt of $50,000. I believe if you make $75,000+ and if you are in debt then you are a idiot and need to set your standards of living lower. The easiest way to need get in debt or have ANY money problems is to simply NOT SPENT MORE THAN YOU MAKE. This is much harder for low-income people and it's understandable for people including all classes to run into problem. But a unreasonable amouny of people put themselves in a very avoidable hole. I grew up dirt poor so I know all about minimalism. 40,000 a year is more than enough for i can easily afford shelter food and pretty much all my needs. I would still have ALOT left for things I dont need but want. I dont understand how people can't stop themselves from going into debt due to materialistic bullshit. Civil disobedience is needed for real change. You've seen it all in history. Kanye West was right to spazz out on the papazaaii I shouldn't have to tip anybody. Fuck you. Your boss is suppose to pay you your job's worthm the fact people demonize not tipping is the reason why companies and fast food joints are able to keep paying them so low. I net none of you guys tipped a mcdonald worker or a walmart front door greeter. Obama was a meh president. Youtube drama is lame and I couldn't care less about any of those channels and make videos against other channels. Drinking should be set to age 18. Smoking cigerettes is dumb and gross but the government shouldn't be allowed to force gross images on boxes or thinking up ways to fuck with smokers. Let's them do what they want with their lungs. Smoking in a nonsmoking areas or next to unwilling people is not cool, take it outside. E-sports is not a sport. Not saying its bad but it's not a real sport. There is nothing wrong with that. Bernie sanders should've ranned independent instead of endorsing hillary. Speaking of that I've seen people here who said that bernie sander supporters that don't vote for hillary are immature and such. Fuck off im not going to vote for hillary nor thrump. I refuse to vote for somebody i dont want as president. It's immature to try to get people vote for your preferred candidate instead of respecting their reasons not to do so. Hillary stood for everything bernie was against. If Thrump wasn't running I doubt he would have even endorse her at all. The two-party system needs to be taken down. It has done nothing but stagnate our nation. We have gave too much power to out of touch congressmen who sat on their asses for over 30 years. The republican party is pretty much dead thanks to thrump. Felonies deserve voting rights. Our prision system is extremely corrupted, it needs to be completely redone. I can't believe my fellow americans would allow millions to be locked up not to be rehabitated but to be slaves to private prisions making $1/hour for labor. Many in there for nonviolent crimes. Then when you get out its much harder for you to get a job, all that happens if you get caught is that they take your rights and throw you in a cell with killers and psychos for a long time then you come out of there trying to start over and life is much harder and all this does is cause repeat offenders. The entire world is run by a network of corperations and banks. If that network collapses our whole world will go to shit. Major world governments aint shit if their entire economy collaspes. This isn't that bad tbh since USA, China and Russia pretty much need eachother they will never go beyond dumb proxy wars since either one's collapse would greatly damage their economy, maybe even more. There was a quote from I think steven hawking(honestly dont remember lol) in which he stated we should not contact aliens as they most likely will be hostile. It took me time to understand why he said that but look at how we treat our own animals. We thrown them in cages by the hundreds of thousands. Slaughter them and harvest their meat, we enslave horses for transport. I'm totally not a vegan, i love meat but watch those slaughterhouses and imagine if it was humans instead? Now we do that to billions of them a year. We have to for now but what if aliens just look at us like how we look at chicken? They are from a completely different evolutionary time line? Would would you think they even have a moral system? How to you know if you cant even comprehend or notice their existence? A ant walking on a highway would know exactly what it is doing but it wouldn't know it's on a highway, they can't comprehend it. How do you know you are not on a "highway" you can't understand or notice? We don't really know what life is or why its here but what if theres more than just life or death. Not talking about the afterlife, look at viruses they are not considerdd life. They move, they reproduce. But they miss key freatures that exludes them from being called life. They say it's dead but I disagree it's simply something other than life. What if we are missing key features to be considered something else? A chair isn't alive and it cant notice us being alive or know what life even is. What if we can't see things that wouldnt be consider life or unalive. What if we are a chair that cant notice those above us.
Felonies deserve voting rights.
Except jaywalking. Jaywalking doesn't get the right to vote.
that was neither short nor quick
That was also the joke and the joke
you say these things as though I don't own BF4 Premium and didn't just play a few rounds the other night. you don't have to list those things which, quite frankly don't make the game better at all, just barely improves player experience with graphical things. server tickrate? wasn't a problem for me in BF3. flinch animations and moving scope reticles? who cares? Perhaps you just have a drastic misunderstanding of what tickrate is. There was a huge hubbub over Overwatch's tickrate when it was released and rightly so because it was ghastly, even when they improved the tickrate, funny Roadhog hooks and the kill-cam being slower than what you actually did are still issues. Improving tickrate has a significant impact on how the game feels, especially at higher pings. This is more important with 4 than 3 because 4 had a bigger TTK than 3 due to a decrease in damage and (quite significant) increase in recoil across the board. Gunfights in 3 often were won very quickly by the person who fired first and had the advantage, whereas fights in 4 could drag out for quite a while due to the above. 3 was actually balanced quite poorly in that respect, the M16A3 and the AEK-971 were pretty much statistically the best rifles due to how 3 handled recoil, spread increase, and spread reduction, and there was no reason to use the slower-firing rifles at all. DICE has also literally given away all of 4's DLCs for free, as well as made a few free post-release maps. DICE also did not make Hardline. Hardline was made by Visceral (the Dead Space guys), a lack of content as well as the release game having horrific balancing issues led to the game dying very quickly. BF1 is being made differently obviously because of the time period, but also because DICE wants to return to each class having distinct roles rather than significant overlap as was present in 4. DICE also exaggerated the physics because they needed to find a way to weaken the ranged power of assault rifles, which is present in both 3 and 4. If assault rifles fired at the velocities they do in ARMA and had 9.81m/s drop, there would really be little reason to use any of the long range weapons (DMRs and snipers) as ARs would be just as effective with controlled bursts (hell, some already are, the AN-94 and the SAR-21 can easily outsnipe) as well as being dominant in medium range and competitive in short range (and again, some already are. The AEK-971 still reigns king in short range and still does well at long range).
The fact that the point of university has shifted from being a source of knowledge and learning to being résumé credit Mills for jobs is fucked up
