Reddit also manipulates votes on r/all to promote diversity between subreddit posts, then removes it after a few hours Shocking, really
just fuck reddit tbh
I like Reddit. I don't browse shit like /r/news and the like though, mostly video game and hobby related subreddits where I can't really see there being an echo chamber problem. Plus you don't have to sort posts by votes anyway.
You're kinda missing my point. Reddit's system actually does serve as an echo chamber. If FP's rating system serves as an echo chamber it's an extremely shoddy one since it does absolutely nothing to actually censor dissenting opinions. It simply marks them for people to read. And that kinda means it's inherently not an echo chamber since you can still very easily see those dissenting opinions.
Which is why I don't go to Reddit for discussions. I'm subbed to 7 subreddits, all but one (/r/floof) are related to hobbies of mine. Quite a good experience that way.

You can at least organize things chronologically which helps a lot over the default view but you can't disable the threaded view which makes it a huge mess to actually keep track of new posts in a thread you're actively reading.
what the fuck are you people saying reddit is hard to read sort by top to get good but one-sided content sort by controversial to get the counter-narrative sort by new to see the shitposts hide pun threads and out-of-context rick & morty quote strings easy
all rating systems serve to condition a user's reaction to content. it encourages groupthink and social chain reactions which are caustic to critical thought.
Reddit also adds a lot of vote weight to the first few votes cast, so shorter, snappier responses, and easier to consume content which can quickly be read/viewed and upvoted shoot to the top while high effort content that takes a while to consume suffers Also it's regularly brigaded by neo-nazis and that's annoying

All replies are still under the comment they're replying to which makes it an enormous mess to keep track of anything that isn't a root comment.
Most subreddits (especially video game specific subreddits) are just one big ol circlejerk anyway
Doom WAD authors should really stop trying to make Serious Sam with a Doom skin
I like reddit but I never check the default subreddits. It's pretty nice for niche hobbies or artists/bands.
not a single game from the n64 days has withstood the test of time other than the zelda games
Not even Quake? I mean sure maybe not the N64 port but Quake itself is still a fantastic game.
oh yeah on that note can anyone clarify for me why Mario is still a thing? He's a two-bit nonsense character from 1981 with literally no personality. His universe makes no sense. Nothing about him is compelling except that he was in a handful of fun games. I mean, Nintendo has some of the strongest brand appeal and, presumably, an army of artists and creative minds at their disposal. Why the fuck are they not even trying to explore new IP?

The games are fun and people like Mario, so Nintendo doesn't really have an incentive to drop their mascot for a more complex character.

feminism is like a white people problem
Ghostbusters in general was never that good.
Its kind of like Doctor Who for me. Loads of people like it, and thats fine. But i just think its too cheesey and lame to be into it. It just seems so cringey, the whole concept of it.

Nintendo tries new ips all the time.
I like the shit talkers (or toxic people, whatever you want to call them) in online games. I find them to be pretty entertaining.
I like the shit talkers (or toxic people, whatever you want to call them) in online games. I find them to be pretty entertaining.
To an extent, same. Unless they're affecting everyones or anyones play, they can talk any shit they want.
The Cheesecake Factory is a truly disgusting establishment it's like what you'd get if you told a sheltered oil prince to design a public high-school cafeteria based on description alone
feminism is like a white people problem
What do you mean by this? I could agree with you if you are saying that non-white people have worse problems to worry about (e.g. racial discrimination from white people) so they don't have time to worry about feminism, so to speak.
I think he means that feminists seem to blow inconsequential issues massively out of proportion because they have no context for what it means to be an actual victim which is certainly true for some feminists but definitely not true for the bulk of them. I think most feminists just see men being taken very seriously - socially, professionally, and in the media - and they want the same treatment
Really hate when I read an argument on a forum and one side just starts blatantly flaming people or throwing insults. It's the kind of vitriol and toxicity that just ruins your mood when all you wanted to do was read a debate on a subject of interest. Happens way too often too and there's never usually never any consequences.
There needs to be consequences i think when this happens. I recently just had a.. thing? I wouldn't call it an argument as such, in the overwatch thread and there were a few people that were generally chipping in with constructive comments, but then there are the toxic people who just don't help with defusing or lightening the mood. I wouldn't even mind if i was the one that got told off/banned for it because then that means the mod/admin judged the situation as being my fault. Which is fine, thats fresh eyes on a subject and they saw the problem and neutralised it. It would make me think and realise why i was the problem.

Then you went on a tirade about it and are apparently still quite miffed over the whole thing. Then when I called you out on it you deleted my message because you apprently couldn't take it(Although feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.). It was so mildly "offensive" that the only reason you got offended was because you apparently wanted to. If someones very mild comment offended you to the point where you're still upset about it the next day then perhaps you should reevaluate. The mods aren't gonna ban someone because they said "No one cares" when you manufacture an argument about genderswapped overwatch artwork.
oh my god keep your shitty kindergarten fights in one thread please
oh my god keep your shitty kindergarten fights in one thread please
its hard to do that when that person has posted about this in like 3 threads and on both my and my girlfriends visitor messages.
-snip- ok say what you want
