Where
Where
in the RC :^]
So I watched my first Ghibli film yesterday while drunk, Howl's Moving castle. I tried watching Princess Mononoke afterwards, but had to plant myself in front of a toilet for 20 minutes of it in case I puked. I have to say, I was actually a bit disappointed. The films are incredibly acclaimed, and while the art and story were very good, the voice acting was, in my opinion, too rigid. It just didn't sound right.
They use the same child voice actor for every single film. They also use the same fucking kid for every kid in every film. Seriously, they look and sound exactly the same. Like some omnipotent being that shares a collective existence in all children in their universe, traversing time and space to exist as the same figure in every universe and time any Ghibli movie is set in. Their films are good, they follow a childrens movie formula through and through, being the Japanese equivalent of Disney. Entertainment for everybody, but nobody in particular. Don't understand the wild praise, but sure enough they are a good watch.
This is the first time i've ever see somebody complain about the voice acting in a ghibli film, you weren't watching the dub where you?
How do you not go insane from hearing the same child voice? Mushishi suffers from the same problem.
Finished Kotoura-san. Disappointed it didn't fully utilise the drama that had been set up but it was still an enjoyable show when I looked at it as being another Yuri Survival Lab show
How do you not go insane from hearing the same child voice? Mushishi suffers from the same problem.
Considering ghibli's movies have spanned a very long period of time, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not actually the same voice actor. Please enlighten me as to what voice actor has been in so many of these movies?
How do you not go insane from hearing the same child voice? Mushishi suffers from the same problem.
Actually, Ghibli just hires actual children. The voices of normal children tend to blend together. [editline]17th May 2015[/editline] At least one went on to be a successful VA later in life but looking at Ghibli lead VAs shows that they tend to just hire people at roughly similar ages to the leads who tend to end their careers are quickly as they began. Note that I'm only looking at the girls but I imagine it applies in general. [editline]17th May 2015[/editline] To which your opinion changes from "i don't like the voice acting because they always use the same voice" to "i don't like that children sound similar".
This is the first time i've ever see somebody complain about the voice acting in a ghibli film, you weren't watching the dub where you?
No, I watched it in Japanese. Grandma Sophie and the kid were probably the two best, and even then they still sounded a bit awkward. I'm actually wondering now if the dub may "feel" better with the voice acting. Also, just because the VA is a kid doesn't mean they have to sound odd. Naru in Barakamon was voiced by a kid, and she did a hell of a good job at it.

Actual children for VAs can be pretty jarring at times, articularly male ones but I appreciate it when they have them. As long as they don't suck at acting anyway.
I haven't seen howl's moving castle yet so I just thought I'd ask.
you should watch it cos it's pretty good
To which your opinion changes from "i don't like the voice acting because they always use the same voice" to "i don't like that children sound similar".
Yes, I looked up Mushishi's cast as well, they have a shitton of different actors for any and every role, not that many re-used surprisingly in general. Most of the children, especially boys, sounds the exact fucking same.
I don't know what it is but something about how you write your posts makes you seems so comically angry about things

plastic memories sure is a rollercoaster of content. spoiler or not whatever [sp]first 2 fucking minutes: back to beta as fuck MC shite, it's atrociously cringe-worthy now, why must anime almost always portray a male MC as the most cowardly fucktard in the world? it's annoying[/sp]

Also should I watch PM? I've been itching to take a look at it
I wonder, too. Also should I watch PM? I've been itching to take a look at it
it's alright so far.
seems that all of saika's scenes in yahari s2 so far have been him coming in, mentioning that something is wrong/different in case the viewer fell asleep or something and then leaving not complaining or anything, it's still better than the nothing he got in s1 after his initial episode, and this time we even got like 7 sentences instead of the usual 2 as well as some extra cuteness
Ore Monogatari is definitely good. It uses a lot of tropes over and over, Chihayafuru-guy tells us when Ogre is telling a joke, Ogre is basically osmium, Ogre has repetitive facial expression jokes, especially the "I really love her", bad shit happens around him all the time and he's off to the rescue. But on the other hand it seems to handle them really well, the "I'm making sure you got the joke" joke seems to have disappeared, and it wasn't used that often per episode either and everything else seems to be brushed off quickly instead of being used and run into the ground several times over the same episode or given any significant attention. The love portrayed is incredibly lovey dovey innocent pure naive kiss kiss hug hug love you forever baby couldn't live without you!!! <3<3<3 and Ogre is incredibly sexist, unknowingly, in his "I have to treat her right" attitude, treating her like a fragile thing that must not be hurt, instead of a person, which he gets some smackback for in the most innocent of ways (bringing us back to the lovey dovey). But I like it, it's definitely the Chihayafuru-effect where there are a lot of things I may dislike about it, but the way it handles it all is bloody spot on, right on the money. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry and it makes me want to watch more. The pace has been good so far for the first 6 episodes, it's seldom you get so much progress over such a short time, and so many things dealt with. It's been able to keep things fresh for every episode, although it does enjoy using forced danger-situations to deal with things, it also brushes those situations off quickly, not letting those be the center of attention, but rather what it results in. (whereas most shows would probably love to cue 10 flashbacks to that one incident, and also have the incident itself take over half the episode, if not the whole episode, maybe even two) Given it's episode length it does seem to take a Itazura na Kiss kind of path, where the relationship is the focus, not getting to it, I hope to see it take it at least to the point of marriage (Itazura kept on even after that, but marriage is a nice ending point), but I'm already happy as it is, seeing these two baffoons deal with their utterly innocent and naive love "problems". First impression: 9/10

So Plastic Memories is this season's feels anime?
So Plastic Memories is this season's feels anime?
no that's ore monogatari.
It's decently entertaining when the writing doesn't dive headfirst into hilariously retarded and the fights are pretty good. Is it good beyond that? Not particularly. Is it a reasonable amount of fun to watch each week? Yes, and that's good enough for me. [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/229468864/Webm/DanmachiRoll.webm[/vid]
Imagine how much better DanMachi would be if every episode didn't devolve into girls hareming over Bell.
I'm calling Plastic Memories "Moe Terminator" from now on.
I'm calling Plastic Memories "Moe Terminator" from now on.
you fool, it's obviously moe blade runner!
Imagine how much better DanMachi would be if every episode didn't devolve into girls hareming over Bell.
Implying that's not the best part.
Imagine how much better DanMachi would be if every episode didn't devolve into girls hareming over Bell.
imagine how much better every fantasy harem series would be if you took out the harem elements.
