From what I read it would have been decent as a standalone but it cannot compare to the detail a VN can offer.
So whenever a detail is bypassed/simplified somebody is bound to get butthurt.

For some reason I didn't enjoy Giovanni's island as much as I wanted to. I really liked the first half and the premise and then it felt like it just switched to a different movie by the second half. Time of Eve was brilliant and enjoyable throughout though.

Because it sounds like you got a dumb cashier. Here they love it when you do that. Also, here we got rid of the penny, so it always rounds down or up when you pay cash, but not when you pay on plastic.
