I'm not sure how it failed at depicting people living their lives one day at a time and in the process learning more about themselves and what they want to do with their lives. They did what they did because it's what they believed was the right thing to do. Both the "evil" and "good" guys (not actually such a thing in the show) had the same set of reasonings. The show literally spelt out the meaning of the show and it's name through the narrator, I'm not sure there was that much to miss about the intention of the show. If you think of it as a show like Kino no Tabi or Mushishi instead of an action show, or something like Kyousogiga you'll probably understand the show a bit better. It's not about the action or any overarching plot, it's about people and how they live.
I understood that it was meant to be a journey-like show where you were meant to be exposed to a different place to explore different themes and ideas. It fails to realise this potential in two main ways. Firstly - and most importantly - the main characters aren't very compelling. They're never developed much beyond their one note personalities. I still don't understand why Yukina is even in the show. Her motivation for joining is so vapid that even the show jokes about it and the two jokes that the show makes about her are old the first time. I never once cared about what happened to them and was never convinced that they had a strong reason to be travelling together in the first place. The slapstick humour in the show never worked for me and I was constantly annoyed by their need to get involved despite their overall uselessness. Whenever there was a scene that focused on the four main characters, the show suddenly become less interesting. It's one thing to have a show not really be about its main characters; it's another for a show to be dragged down by them. Secondly, the places they visit and the people they meet are often never well realised. The 2nd to 4th scenarios are passable (they have their problems) but the last 2 and the overarching scenario fall apart very quickly. [sp]Why did the pink umbrella lady abandon her child? What made pirate lady into a bitch? What was the rivalry between Shigyo and Macca Green? What's up with the Takumi guys? The shows answer to all these question is a resounding "we don't really care." Apparently that's not important. Except it is. You mention how there's no "good" or "evil" characters in the show but to be able to reach that conclusion, the characters need depth; they need context for their actions. We aren't really given that. They do the things they do until they don't in order for the show to end on a happy note. Which raises another point, the characters themselves aren't consistent either. Too often, enemies suddenly find themselves reconciling for little to no reason. What reason does Kaguya have for saving pirate lady's life? Why is pink umbrella lady suddenly chummy with everyone at the end? Did Shigyo and Macca Green forget they were at each others throats?[/sp] In both Kino no Tabi and Mushishi, each scenario has a certain tale to tell; a theme to explore or a moral to present. It all gets wrapped up neatly - or not at all if that's what the show deems proper - and the characters of the episode get proper arcs. Rolling Girls handwaves away too much to feel like it earns its endings and leaves viewers confused and unsatisfied.
Finished Yoru no Yatterman. It was pretty good, but I'm not sure what to say about it. I'm not sure if I would have liked it better or not if it had been Yatterman Sins instead of comedic most of the time.
it was a cute little show waiting for BDs to fix last episode
http://myanimelist.net/people/18433/ZAQ Chuu2 doesn't on my screen at 25% zoom
Just finished catching up to chapter 171 of Prison School and my god I haven't laughed so much in a long time.
what's the ubuntu equivalent of k-lite/mpc?
I'm genuinely confused right now
yeah here it's pretty old so it's kinda faded into obscurity
The second half of Yoru no Yattermen's finale felt kind of.. awkward? I guess that's how I can describe it? Some scenes were just kinda there and in some cases there wasn't really any sound effects. ed: I saw the /a/ thread and official tweets, can't be helped they'd have to rush it, but oh well.
I can't be bothered to make a list cause I know I'll end up watching way more than i want to either way. I hate anime.
anime is alright, but i blame tito either way
So i found out that there was a live action Cromartie High School. I am pleasantly surprised.
Ito Kanako going to preform at Sakura Con in Seattle, I live in North Carolina :(
Looks like we've reached the inter-season lull of posting
There isn't really much to talk about. The only thing that aired yesterday of any note was Lezzer Bears and I imagine most people (including me) are waiting for non-awful subs. Finished Yowamushi Pedal - Grande Road, though. It was ok.
I'm probably the only one in this thread looking forward to Kyoukai no Rinne next week.
I didn't really watch much this winter (feels weird saying that at 35*C) and unless FA finds a few non-obvious gems it looks like I'll be watching even less in Spring.
I'm probably the only one in this thread looking forward to Kyoukai no Rinne next week.
I dunno I'm pretty sure we had a Rumiko Takahashi fan around here Ranma was enough Takahashi for me though
Anyone know if horriblesubs is doing gintama? Unlike jjba, gintama actually airs at a reasonable time. Speaking of jjba, is it considered non-shounen/seinen now? Stardust Crusaders used to be serialized in Jump but it airs at like 1am.
Just started watching Kids on the Slope and it pretty damn great so far.

not enough people watching danna danna is going to be aots again
Lesbian Bear Storm ended the way it began, confusingly and disorientingly. [sp]Kureha became a bear, so basically everyone was bears. Then they got shot, maybe, you don't know for sure. Then some twintailed chick find a cyborg they made of a dead bear and starts the cycle of lezbear love all over again. Oh well, I guess that's the sexy way to do things. Shaba-da-doo.[/sp]
Am up to 3 on the twins-kissing-count on DRRx2. It could be more, but I am satisfied thus far.
beav...
if you're going to tell me to drop it, it is not happening This is merely a test for my "no drop" rule, it is all part of GOD's plan. I shall not drop any shows, I shall suffer through them all, I shall judge everything. Oh and speaking of suffering and masochism, I need the help of someone who is either very good with English or very interested in looking at dictionaries for various idioms for something mango related. If anyone is interested in helping a very broken man like myself please send a PM or add me on Steam directly because PMs are terrible and posting my e-mail would make snorkel ban me.

You're both stupid, foolish, and also dumb
I've never understood the "never drop shows" attitude. Pick them up again if people say it turns around but what good is it to stay with something that isn't stimulating at all. I won't drop a show just because it's bad but there have been plenty of shows that I stopped watching because I didn't feel like watching for that one or two weeks and then I totally forgot about them.
After managing to watch through Gundam SEED Destiny I lost the right to drop shows
