in the weird subgenere of "boy meets girl who changes his life"
why does the OP get a fantasy category but not this
i hope jc staff adapts punpun into a 12 episode romcom
Never mind Punpun. Where's my Sakamoto Desu Ga?! anime?
My taste in shows is super weird. I mostly like good shows. The way I see it, a 10 is a prime example of its genre.
the only way that samurai flamenco is a prime example of any genre is if you count it as the genre of "bad anime"
My bet is on Fall or Winter
Sure is taking a while for Mikagura subs.
Anyway... I'm sure as hell excited for Ore Monogatari. I've been waiting for it for a while.
Sure is taking a while for Mikagura subs.
It's a shame since I actually got an interest in it once I found out that the MC is a girl and not a self-insert harem protagonist like the other thirty shows.
It's a shame since I actually got an interest in it once I found out that the MC is a girl and not a self-insert harem protagonist like the other thirty shows.
You just made me slightly interested in Mikagura.
I didn't notice until the day of airing because I saw the premise and didn't read it properly as it was immediately consigned to the generic LN adaption bin, and just assumed that the male MC was hiding somewhere in the background of the poster like they always are.
There are tons of way to score stuff and tons of factors that jump in when I score whatever. In the end I really don't like scores since it's a weird battle for each person of subjectivity and objectivity. Like one person will have scores that mean x the other y and let's say they fight over the scores... I don't like that. So I devised a method that mixes both my personal feelings and how I see the genre. In the end the "best of genre" only really applies to 10's, and even then... In the end "best of genre" is how I see my scores today, but they are all just rater normally. I just don't like calling things "perfect" or "masterpiece" so I use the term prime instead which in turn lead me to seeing things as prime of there genres whereas I really see them as "prime in general". I don't know... scores are stupid. Also, I'm a big "everything is relative" guy so it all works well in my (probably) insane head. Punpun is pretty fucking amazing, maaaaaan.
Scores are stupid, they become even more stupid if you don't use the higher numbers to mean better than the lower numbers and equal numbers to have a similar quality (enjoyment). Scores are just an arbitrary way to put feelings into numbers, to convey your personal enjoyment to others in a simplified and quick way. It makes little sense to dislike scores and how people put different meanings into the numbers, and then change what the numbers even represent. At least with others you can be sure that the 8 means it's better than 7. Your system however means that a 5-6-7-8-9 can all be better than a 10 because they happened to be a different genre, nichè genres will quickly plow through the numbers and stand on the 10 because there is nothing else quite like it, not because it was on it's own that damn good. Nobody likes calling things "perfect", that's just a stupid simplifaction of what a 10 is, it's the highest grade so it should be used sparingly, thus the idea of "perfect/masterpiece" is represented in the score. But the concept of perfection doesn't exist in real life (arguably it does in digital mediums as you can have a perfect pixel). Giving it a different name doesn't change anything, call it prime, perfect, fucking badass, best shit ever, it all means the same, because they are all represented by the highest number on the list, the number is what you should focus on, not the name of it. You can't say you think of them as "prime in general" if you would downrate Aku no Hana if a PunPun got an anime adaption, you have already classified it as being prime, the existence of something else shouldn't change that, because when you watched it, it was prime. Honestly, if you think PunPun would be so fucking good when adapted that it would be prime and Aku no Hana wouldn't, then Aku no Hana isn't prime at all and you've given it a rating you don't stand by, you've already decided that it doesn't fulfill the requirements for a prime show, those requirements can be found in PunPun. Your 10 is basically "it was the best of the worst I could find at the time", it holds no meaning at all. It's the "newest and greatest", the hippest and coolest gadget, the newest model, the most high-res camera, etc etc. It's just a placeholder for the "next big thing". If there was only one show in the whole world that was a "Class action lawsuit fighter brawl harem comedy drama scientology debate romance" show, then it would by the logic of this system have a 10/10, even though if other shows in that genre existed it would have maybe otherwise gotten a 2/10. It's just so weird to be against the inconsistency of ratings and then do it even more so, and then on top of that having the ratings be fluid. If you ask me, you've made a rating system that represents absolutely nothing.

It's inconsistent because they are just scores, and I went through like... 5 systems? Before just giving up on systems, because in the end I like most shows. I guess the best way to say it is "I like most things, here's what I sort of think of the quality." I don't know, I just changed scores many many times to the point of meaninglessness to what we have now. It's consistently inconsistent though.
can't wait for Sidonia S2

I don't know how scores are inconsistent because they are score, I think you need to explain this much further before it makes any sense.

Every score is based upon small and specific factors that apply to each show non of which are really in my conscious. So if I tell you something is a 6 it's because in comparison to all the stories I've ever consumed and every single experience in my life related or unrelated determined that it's worth a 6. Basically, scores are just scores determined by how I see the show. So just like all scores, meaningless and specific about me.

So just like all scores, meaningless and specific about me.
I think you're using "twisted logic" and "personal" as scapegoats here. All scores work just like you described them, people put a arbitrary number to their personal experience, there is nothing unique about that. Nobody rates objectively, objectivity just comes in as a factor because you know when something has been done right or not (poor editing, fucked up drawings, sound levels all over the place, blatantly bad voice acting, broken dialogue, clear plotholes, etc etc), objective faults negatively affect your subjective enjoyment, a rating is wholly and fully personal and subjective for anyone that rates. The value of a 5 or a 6 lies in the number and the numbers over and below them. 5 is objectively speaking a show that has given you dead-average enjoyment, but what is average enjoyment? That's the personal aspect of ratings. By comparing your enjoyment, likes and dislikes with other shows you conclude that it fits within a certain rating. "I have experienced many shows much better than this, but it was clearly not as bad as this show at 5, so I think a 6 should be right, because I generally enjoyed those shows at 7 more" It's by comparing the enjoyment of other shows to the current one that anyone ever reaches a conclusion on their enjoyment, because you've experienced all their stories, jokes, music, dialogue, etc. You have all the reasonings anyone has for rating, yet you decide to be weird with the scale and add in extra factors. It seems to me that you wanted to find a solution to the rating system and then just went "fuck it" and left it as is and just gave "twisted logic" and "personal" the blame.
punpun isn't even that good, the second half isn't nearly as good as the first.

First episode of Ore Monogatari was pretty good. Having watched the PV, I thought Yamato's voice would annoy me, but it's actually not that bad.

I'm up to 17 shows this season, and with more things likely to come out this Thursday, I may surpass 20.
I'm up to 17 shows this season, and with more things likely to come out this Thursday, I may surpass 20.
Surprisingly I have a breath of air this season. Probably the first season in ever where I have less than 20, right now I only have to bother with (excluding carry overs) 8, 9 when Ninja Slayer comes out.
all I'm really gonna watch this season is sequals and continuations so around 5-6 new shows at most, I may add more in a few weeks if anything stays interesting, but I need a break after watching 30 shows per season the past couple seasons
