They were already working on it to some degree back in August '14 so that's basically over a year and a half from start to finish.
If you're telling me to trust the timescale that Shirobako portrayed then they could basically make an entire UTD series in 6 - 12 months.

In the end it's probably going to have more polish then an Elder Scrolls game.
It's only 2 episodes but DanMachi seems like it could of been a good light hearted anime but instead it's trying to be dramatic but it's just annoying how in episode 2 [sp]Hestia has the enchanted sword right on her back and she never gives it to Bell even though his one breaks. We all know he's going to get the sword sooner or later but the anime is treating us like idiots.[/sp]

If they were a full scale studio they could, as far as I know, Under The Dog is made by a handful of people.
Also reading up on it, it's planned to span two seasons, they're just planning to finish the first episode first and then make the others at a later date.

They've probably landed a sponsorship deal given the amount of interest shown through Kickstarter. Wouldn't make sense to set the plans, make the script and storyboards without already having a deal.
It's a typical thing to do, using Kickstarter as a means to get some starting funds and show potential sponsors that there is an interest in what they're making, making it easier to convince them to fund them.
