I just watched Akira. It was really cool. Kinda lost me towards the end. It's really good, no wonder it's considered a classic. I wonder how something like that was received in 1988's Japan.

It was probably very popular from 1982 onwards to warrant an movie adaptation before the serialization was complete.

having a proper nose and mouths goes a long way in making you empathize with characters (since they look human then) It's something a show like f/sn ubw really needed.
even a super simplified style like in hidamari sketch is loads better than f/sn ubw.

And speaking of euphonium, I'm glad I was wrong about how much it would be kyoani's usual style, the only thing that's really left of it seems to be the eyes, which aren't bad with strong general design for the faces.
Noses are hard. Can't blame them if it's just a lump. :v:

I feel somewhat misled by ninja slayer, the PV only showed scenes with real animation, mostly from the op video. This sells it as one of trigger's well animated shows, but it's basically just inferno cop with a budget.
Maybe I expected too much, but I don't really think the fusion of normal animation and inferno cop levels of flash animated jpgs works very well.
If they just use the inferno cop style for short gags it'd be fine. It would be better if they used it for something more goofy, like reverting to the style in post-death "win screens" after defeating a villain (like Panty-Stocking did with exploding clay statues)

It's all subjective. Personally I do prefer having more defined noses but my point was that the face shape was probably a design choice rather than a quality issue. Whether it was a good choice or not is a different issue entirely

Muv-Luv Alternative is a great visual novel, but the Total Eclipse anime is pretty boring. I dropped it after 9 episodes though, maybe it gets better.
