I liked Tales of Symphonia opening, sadly most Tales games are pretty much copypaste of eachother.
But Tales of the Abyss is still one of my favorite childhood games. I had multitap for ps2 and managed to play it with 4 people, which was awesome at the time.

Tales of Abyss was interesting case btw. English version of the game had instrumental opening instead of dubbed or japanese.

Tales openings make me wish I was watching a high-budget anime of the game instead.
I imagine the two or three Tales tv adaptions have fuck-all budget.

Hey guys, so I'm planning to watch a show that a friend recommended to me called Clannad. But I found out that there's also a VN, that the show was based on I think, and I don't know which one to go for. I'd appreciate some replies but agree for anime and disagree for VN would help out too!
It will take you less than twenty hours to complete the anime and over fifty to read the visual novel. :)

It's the same story though isn't it? I'm not sure how interested I'm going to be in the second choice after finishing the first
And I don't have a time limit so I'm gonna go with the one that I think I will enjoy the most :)

how much do you like reading/bad artwork? this is vital for playing any VN and not just Clannad.

Apart from the VN having route choices, the anime will also streamline at least some of it's chosen route to adapt due to episode constraints. Each has it's own way of telling the same story.

I've seen some screencaps from the anime, and I admit I think it looks silly, but my friend vouches for the show so I'm sure I'll be fine.
Also I looked at some from the VN just now too, and they were like exaggerated versions of the anime art haha, I'll survive though
I take it the VN's the way to go? I'm already familiar with VNs, so that's no problem. I wont expect fate zero levels of artwork but if the story's good Im content

tbh the current english translation is a little bit iffy, but i guess it's decent enough to read. there's an official release coming out at the end of the year which will probably be better if you want to wait that long.

The anime is a masterpiece, and so is the VN. I think you should watch the anime first.

I've already bitten into the VN so I think I'll stick with that for now ^^ I haven't gotten far at all but I'm loving the humor. I was under the impression that this was a romance (and im sure we'll get there) but right now I'm enjoying it more than any sitcom or comedy I've ever seen
Visual Novels usually have a long "common" route where the characters are introduced and you get to know them, which usually has a lot of comedy and borderline slice-of-life, before it goes into "character" routes where your choices will put you onto a characters route where the story will start to revolve around them.
