First season was pretty good but the 2nd season didn't hold my interest. Still have like 5 episodes to go but no desire to watch.

Sword Art Online is about a special snowflake Gary Stu who gets all of the coolest, most game breaking powers, because he's the best person ever.
Log Horizon is about people figuring out how to form a working society after they've been dropped into a world with nearly no existing infrastructure and different rules from reality.
It's also about cooking and young girls squeeing over fancy catmen.

they're not stuck in a video game, they're stuck in a real world which has the rules of a video game. I think this fixes something that really bothers me about SAO and .hack, that is how far in the future such advanced video games would be. They're walking around acting like it's the real world and they seem to be able to do pretty much anything they can in the real world. Just imagining all that seemingly impossible programming just ruins it a bit for me.

Funnily enough that [I]is[/I] addressed in the LN, as opposed to the perfect VR of the anime. Stuff like exploiting the AI patterns of the monsters, the limited polycount of the in-game models, facial expressions being exaggerated in the animation engine, the fact that the game can't do water quite right, and so on and so forth.

The original SAO LN does have strengths, it's just that the story and characters are complete ass.
The animated parts in Ninja Slayer is so damn cool.
I think I heard that it's going to air on TV next year,hopefully the whole show will be properly animated

If the TV broadcast of Ninja Slayer is fully animated and the original broadcast was just stalling to animate it properly then Trigger would be the most amazing assholes ever.

Yeah, those scenes can be slightly awkward, don't think its necessary myself still be a enjoyable series without that. I'm curious as to where his father has disappeared too? It doesn't seem to have been explained very well.
