I can't even land a plane in Battlefield 2, so I doubt I'll be able to land a jet plane.
1 time i landed me moms car in the driveway so yeah probably
I've had training in a Cessna, but anything more than that I am screwed.
I could land a full sized airliner. I'm a big Flight Sim buff, but my dad is also the head of pilot training for a mid-sized commuter airline. Real world simulator for the absalute win!
Autopilot :v: (which mythbusters did)
On topic, probably can; Flight Simulator series was one of the first game series I've played
I played Flight Simulator like a million times on easy so probably yeah
EDIT:
But in all seriousness, I might be able to. You will die if you don't, so there's nothing to lose.
Actually used the rainbow for optimistic this time
Basics of aircraft landing:
Line up ( Obviously ).
Lower engine power.
Flaps down.
Gear down.
Let speed fall.
Null engine power.
Nose up.
Allow rear wheels to touch down.
Allow front wheels to touch down.
Speed brakes out.
Engines to full back.
Use rudder pedals to steer, Push both to break.
Let speed fall.
Null engine speed.
Speed brakes in.
Obviously this is a seriously crude list, but it gives a good idea.
I guess I would. I have more thank one thousand hours on Flight Simulator X, with the most realistic settings possible.
Also, I play online with those fags that think that are real air company owners.
I played X-Plane for about the same amount of time. Simulating all kinds of failures with it as well. I reckon I could.
This a picture of a Bendix King analog transponder. Newer one have an LCD or LED numeric display. You can see the light above the ident button.

This is a more modern unit. Note both have 1200 displayed. That is a common code for light aircraft meaning they are flying under visual flight rules. It is very unlikely that a transport category plane would be using this code.

To explain why that is important if you want to have ATC talk you down they may ask you to squawk something. Squawk 0123 for example. Then your plane shows up on their radar scope with that unique number. When the transponder switch is set to "Alt" the transponder also sends the altitude your on board altimeter is showing. This is the only way ATC knows how high you are, and the only way they can get you to the altitude you need to be at. Also if you don't know how to talk to ATC you can inform them of your emergency with the transponder by squawking 7700. Here are some other codes used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transponder_(aviation)#Emergency_codes.
Just checked my logs I have 222 landings. Not sure I could do a big jet though, just have to get the airspeed set correctly and then it probably wouldn't be impossible, but not a pretty landing.
I do fly little recreational aircrafts occasionally (I got a full licence) and play a lot of X-Plane and Flight Sim X on Realistic so yeah I would try hell yeah.
[editline]11:28AM[/editline]
and yes with a proper flight joystick.
Fuck no!
With assistance I probably could, with none, I dunno.
No biggie, if I crashed the plane would just flip upright and I would have to start over. Right?
If you only count landing as getting to the ground, then yes.
If you count it as getting to the ground ALIVE, then fuck no.
The front of commercial airliners are build to skid for distances, all you'd need to do is land relatively flat at a relatively low speed and just mash the brakes
I sure can, just watch m-

Without assistance, maybe. I know enough about flying planes to be somewhat competent, but I lack the proper experience, especially where large jets are concerned.
With assistance, probably.
I am sure that if I can land a plane in Microsoft Flight Sim X with a 360 controller then I can land a real plane.
Probably not. However, If no one else on the plane had experience, I'd damned well try. I've played plenty of sims(including a replica A6 cockpit for a carrier landing...had some assistance on that one though), I have a very high familiarity with aircraft and aircraft function, and landed a cessna pretty much by myself once(The instructor was right next to me with his hands on his own controls, and he guided me through it, but I had the controls pretty much from the moment we banked for the landing till all the wheels were on the ground)
Something tells me I'd have a hard time finding the damn radio controls though.
When I play IL-2:1946, I cannot land ever. I've given up on landing on runways, I always try to crash land my small fighter onto some flat ground, usually the landing gear survives. So, no, I don't think I could do it, maybe with help though.
Wait let me just pop in flight simulator... YES! Yes I can land a plane. Now I'm gonna go try it in real life. Probably easier.
:downs:
A great tutorial: http://www.wikihow.com/Land-an-Airplane-in-an-Emergency
Worth the read.
With no instruction, no.
Ill give it a good go.
Without assistance from someone with experience, no chance in hell. With assistance, maybe.
I'd think I could, and then crash violently
Yes, because I'm in fact actually a pilot.
Maybe a small plane, but something like a jet i don't think i would be able to
I dunno about a plane, but I could definitely do it with a train if a train driver went suicidal. Hell, I could probably even finish the journey all the way to the destination without anyone noticing.
I've driven an Underground train before a couple of weeks ago. I know the driver and he's pretty cool.
