• Would you be capable of landing an airplane?

I know the basics of flying planes (Pull on the wheel to go up, push to go down, left and right to roll, pedals for rudder etc) So I think I could land a small plane, but definitely not a airliner.

With my eyes closed
I'd probably accidentally end up recreating 9/11
yes, I fly planes [editline]er[/editline] I meant I am a private pilot, like I have a license for sports and private without instruments. if we're talking about landing a commercial jet, I would have a hard time (the glide slopes are ridiculously hard to get the feel for) seeing as I haven't worked with multi-engine behemoths. I'm used to touching down like a Cessna 182 in a 2,000 foot runway in a matter of hundreds of feet, not bringing a 747 or A340 down on a 6,000+ foot runway.
I don't have a license, but I've done it as a copilot.
I played Flight Simulator like a million times on easy so probably yeah EDIT: But in all seriousness, I might be able to. You will die if you don't, so there's nothing to lose.
Same here with me. I would probably seriously damage the plane and endanger the lives of all the passengers but at least most of us will make it out alive. :v:
I'd give it a go assuming there is no-one else on the plane with any flying experience at all, I mean you've got not much to lose, either you try and fail or suceed or you don't try and die anyway. Besides I would imagine the amount of benefits after sucessfully landing (to a degree) would be quite nice.
well ive seen the inside of a cockpit on cod mw 2 so i would be able to for sure
I played Ace Combat X a lot so I'm pretty sure I can without any problem.
I played Ace Combat X a lot so I'm pretty sure I can without any problem.
yeah i agree because ace combat x is the most realistic flight simulator ever created
Hell yeah, I'd land it upside-down just to prove how easy it is. Then I would stand on top of it with huge aviators glasses
I could try.
Flight Simulator tells me i'd end up bouncing along the horizon for 20 minutes before coming to rest in the ocean.
I'm pretty sure my best mate David could, he plays Flight Sim X a LOT. He has his own virtual airline, www.flyworldwide.tk
well I can't even land a plane in Microsoft Flight, so no way in hell
I don't think i will be a good pilot. But being a gamer does help making things more understandable i think. I mean, i known to watch the brown/blue thing since i was 8. Unlike the mythbusters. that should make pretty much all the difference. I am pretty sure you can make a fairly decent emergency crash landing with that knowledge alone. Obviously the larger a plane is the harder it will be. I think many of us will survive landing a small plane.
Also, airplane staff should have SOME sort of training, shouldn't they?
Where's the G-key?! Where's the G-key?! OH GOD PAUSE PAUSE PAUSE!!
3,000 logged flights on FSX Yep, I'm able to land that thing.
I've landed a glider, if that counts.
nope
Flight Simulator does not do justice to flying. It helps a little with some of the basics and the feel for how airplanes maneuver, but when you're actually flying there's the whole sense of orientation, positive and negative Gs depending on if you do a pull- or push-over, and the sheer weight of the plane, along with atmospheric discrepancies that at any moment could cause your plane to drop a good 20-30 feet out of the air.
Dammit, I can't find the Mythbusters episode, Can anybody help?
Impossible bro. Autopilot can climb to an altitude, and descend. Turn, and go to way points. An airplane lands while flying ten feet off the runway. The pilot pulls back on the stick to raise the nose, causing the wheels to touch. The autopilot would simply drive straight through the ground. You set a 800 foot per minute decent. It won't straighten out the aircraft until you reach the x altitude.
well no. modern autopilots can and often are designed to land the plane entirely. at airports that often have really bad fog or otherwise poor visibility there are systems in place that allow the autopilot to accurately judge everything and land entirely by itself.
Nope.
I'd probably fuck up.
It'd be worth a shot, I guess. [editline]04:28PM[/editline] King of page 4!
Yeah. I fly them for a hobby.
Yea
I would say yes, from films and from watching the mythbusters episode where they use a flight simulator.
I agree... btw is your avatar cortez?
