[QUOTE=Bredirish123;23066511]PM Benji and he'll probably close the thread for you since he's a nice guy.[/QUOTE]
Thank you for the advice, will do right away. :)
Common sense and perception is what you need.
[QUOTE=Sorter;23066451]I got my answers, should we let the thread die maybe?[/QUOTE]
Facepunch is too populated to "let threads die".
Half the time the mods ban for the most ridiculous things. It slowly makes me dislike Facepunch more and more, but there is a lot of interesting threads to read so I always come back.
Dont be a Dumb Fuck.
[editline]12:03AM[/editline]
Do as you do in real life in other words
Think before you post.
Use common sense, and always read the thread before posting; if someone got banned, do not do what they did. Make sure you're not being racist, don't derail the thread, and if what you have to say doesn't contribute to a discussion at hand, then it would probably be better not to say it.
[QUOTE=Sorter;23066089]Just a heads up, below is probably gonna sound dumb, so go ahead and rate dumb. I would too.
I feel like I might do something wrong without knowing what it was and getting banned,
I see all these people getting banned for weird reasons I can't understand, at least 1-2 users a day.
What are the most common bannable offenses? Just so I can think real hard before I post. Facepunch seems very strict about certain etiquettes,
which I don't mind but meh.. I would just like to avoid the banned ones' fate.[/QUOTE]
Seeing as I've pretty much been here the same time as you, I have the same probem. I have actually read the stickies before I made my first post here. But sometimes I still get confused. I viewed a thread earlier this week where the OP was asking a question. It seemed very reasonable but he didn't know where to post the thread, he even admitted not knowing where and apologized if it were in the wrong section. He was then banned for posting in the wrong section. I thought that was a little unfair.
So apparently you can get banned even if you were being considerate. So I think I know what to do to not get banned, but things like that make me a little paranoid.
[QUOTE=wonkadonk;23066211]whatever u do don't raid[/QUOTE]
I wonder if you could raid yourself ..
do no post
[QUOTE='[ToRn];23067568']He was then banned for posting in the wrong section. I thought that was a little unfair.[/QUOTE]
Posting in the wrong section is banable, no matter in what way you look at it.
Just because someone says sorry before breaking your TV, doesn't mean you'll excuse him, right?
if you do get banned, most likely you'll agree that you shoulda been banned, so just dont do anything that you think will get you banned
[QUOTE=shatteredwindow;23067830]if you do get banned, most likely you'll agree that you shoulda been banned, so just dont do anything that you think will get you banned[/QUOTE]
Not if they said sorry before :downs:
No racism.
Unless you're making fun of white people from other countries, that's okay.
Well here's something I came up with
[QUOTE]
1. Don't be an asshole.
2. Don't be racist.
3. Don't talk about warez, talking about the game you pirated is OK but we don't need to know you pirated it.
4. Don't troll.
5. Respect other members.
6. Don't backseat moderate, you're not the moderator.
7. Don't reply just to reply, reply if you know you've got something to add to the conversation.
8. Don't go to a thread about X just to say it sucks without backing up your argument.
9. Before posting a thread, you should check if another exists and if the thread is in the right section.
10. Don't organize/participate in raids.
11. Don't post to a ban me/spam threads, instead, you should report it so moderators can handle it accordingly.
12. Don't bump threads from 5 years ago.
13. Don't reply with just an image.
34. Blindly defend facepunch, even when you know you're wrong.

Posting something in the wrong section of an internet forum is not comparable to breaking a TV. Those two scenarios are in the same scale but different ends of the scale.
His thread could've just been moved and a PM sent to him to notify him of this along with a warning. If he did it again, then a ban. To me, that would've been a little more reasonable.
Don't post with your ass, post with your brain.
Use common sense and you're fine.
Don't post stupid things, don't post in threads that are obvious ban-mes, don't post racist things, don't flame people, and above all watch what other people post, and watch the reactions to it, it gives you a better sense of how/what to post around here. Granted, I joined 3 months ago, but hey, I haven't got banned yet.
Edit: I just realized i'm replying to the OP, so my advice advice kind of went out the window. Though maybe if you had followed it you wouldn't have needed to make this topic :colbert:
[QUOTE]1. This rule list is not total, the excuse 'it wasn't on the rules list' isn't applicable. This is not a democracy.
2. Respect each other. Don't call each other names.
3. Don't reply to a thread just to say it's shit.
4. Don't troll. Don't reply to a thread about The Simpsons to say that Family Guy is better.
5. If someone does something wrong, report them. Flaming or attacking them will get you banned.
6. Don't reply to threads that are made with the intent of the user getting banned (ban me threads)
7. Nudity is fine. If you want to post pictures of an erect penis or penetration of any kind do not [img] tag it.
8. Don't post child porn.
9. Purposely breaking any of these rules with an alt account will get all your accounts permabanned.
10. Use descriptive thread titles. Things like 'Help' or 'Something I saw..' aren't descriptive.
11. Do not link, hint or talk about warez. Discussing games that you have pirated is fine - but we don't need to know that you pirated it, or where you pirated it from. Anyone that asks for links to pirated games will be banned.
12. Do not make parody threads.
13. If you're posting a link to a news story say why and/or state your opinion. Do not just post links.
14. Do not copy and paste new threads from a website.
15. Do not post things like 'I smell a ban' or 'this is against the rules' or 'wrong forum'.
16. Spell properly. This isn't GameFaqs.
17. Do not reply to threads just to reply. Replying with things like 'uh.. ya' or 'what' will get you banned.
18. If you're replying to a thread asking for help, HELP OR DO NOT POST.
19. Advertising your website is fine as long as it's relevant.
20. Don't steal stuff and claim it as yours. Don't use this rule as an excuse to bitch if you're not credited for your work. They need to claim that they made it.
21. Read the thread before replying. If you reply to a thread based on thread title you will get banned.
22. Don't make new threads to announce your birthday. No-one cares.
23. Don't make threads to get us to make up your mind about something ie 'Should I get a PS3 or XBox360?'. Make up your own mind. Don't use this rule as an excuse to flame people for making a thread to ask opinions ie 'What is the best MP3 player?'
24. Posting Image Macros will get you banned. It isn't clever. Just use words.
25. Replying with hilarious meme's like 'Stick it in her pooper' will get you banned.
26. Replying to threads like you were the guy they were talking about in the first post isn't funny.
27. Making obvious threads to earn ratings will get you banned.
28. DO NOT ACCESS THE FORUMS VIA A PROXY. If you're viewing the site through a proxy and you have the same IP as someone using that proxy to spam you will also get permabanned. I don't care if your school blocks the forums.
29. Don't make threads about how unfair your school is.
30. Don't make threads about religion, unless it's in a religion forum.
31. Don't make threads about dreams, unless it's in a dreams forum.
32. Don't make threads asking if your computer can run a game.
33. This is not an obituary forum. Don't post threads about how your relative/friend/cat died.
34. Blindly defend Facepunch, even when you know you're wrong.[/QUOTE]
Youre gonna start by not making any kind of "How to" threads.
Why did Garry get rid of the rules? I thought they were a pretty good guide to posting on these forums.
Woah, the terminology here is different than those of other forum(s).
[QUOTE=Hahailost;23068528]Woah, the terminology here is different than those of other forum(s).[/QUOTE]
Like what other forums? I'm curious because I spent like 3-4 years on another forum (gamefaqs, trust me I know, you don't have to tell me how bad it is) and it is quite a bit different here. Much less idiotic, and a much better moderation system, and the features are nice as well. Oh, and the terminology difference is there too.
I spent a lot of time on RSOT (Runescape Off Topic forum). I've only noticed two differences, though.
Warez = Pirating (which it is, but we just called it pirating)
Backseat moderating = wbming (Wannabe modding, there's a [i]ton[/i] of it on RSOT)
And that's it.
It took me a while to figure out what warez meant here.
the mods need to be more strict... I miss the days when people were banned for stupid reasons.
I've stayed here for nearly 2 years. Just don't be a dick.
[QUOTE='[ToRn];23068044']His thread could've just been moved and a PM sent to him to notify him of this along with a warning. If he did it again, then a ban. To me, that would've been a little more reasonable.[/QUOTE]
Then the moderators have a lot of work to do. This happens daily, they've told us countless times that they are tired of it and don't care.
You are not given rights on these forums, you are given privileges, which the moderators can remove from you if they wish. This is neither a democracy, for the only powers here are the moderators.
Ban you say? It is very easy to evade bans in this day and age of facepunch.
Go back in time, and join facepunch in 05. Feel the PAIN!
Just don't post TOO much (to avoid the chance that one of the many posts you make might be banworthy), and when you do, if you get into an argument with someone don't get carried away and say stupid or offensive shit.
Constantly read the ban history and learn from other's mistakes...
