Mods can be a little banhappy at times, but so long as you use this thing called common sense, you should be fine.
Most bans aren't even permanent. It's more of a one day time-out unless you were particularly stupid.
Just be nice and learn from others.
Don't do what I did.
OH GOD THE HORROR
a
Think before you post, and take notes about what you see going on around you.
I got banned for "Encouraging Warez", it was a totally fair ban, but when I wrote what I wrote I wasn't aware it was... not allowed on these forums.. It was about my 7th post.
Basically, don't yell at people (flame) post dumb things (shitpost) or go into a thread about *band you dont like* and say "this band sucks blah blah blah." (trolling)
Also don't reply to people with one or two posts who are raving on about a program, it's spam.
Again when I got banned I hadn't realized it was a spam thread..
I find it pretty easy to not get banned in general.
Also try put stuff in the right place, most are only 1 hour /1 day bans, but if you check up and down the front page that helps.
I've seen Music threads in General Discussion, and General Games discussion things in GD as well..
Remember No Russian
delete facepunch lock op ban thread
I'll bet you get banned for this thread, OP.
I'll bet you get banned for this thread, OP.
Would honestly be funny, but not so much needed.
I've been only banned for simple things I didn't even realize.
Me too. And that one thread that got me a month-long ban. Don't do that.
[editline]01:34AM[/editline]
No, I will not link to the thread.
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=21743292#post21743292
It wasn't really hard to scan your ban history for that man..
[editline]03:49PM[/editline]
I'm just doing what anyone else could have done, just as easily.
I don't see what's so bad about it, you told him not to do it, but then wouldn't link to the thing that would show him what you were saying not to do.
And everyone gets banned occasionally.
Then the moderators have a lot of work to do. This happens daily, they've told us countless times that they are tired of it and don't care.
You are not given rights on these forums, you are given privileges, which the moderators can remove from you if they wish. This is neither a democracy, for the only powers here are the moderators.
What I mentioned was meant to be for certain situations, not all.
Just don't be a dick and don't write shit. Basically don't even start making threads until you've been around here for 6 to 12 months. Please.
I have been here a year and a half and I still can't make a thread that stays alive in the GD for more than a day
 Common sense. Don't post in Shit Threads like Ban-Me's, Don't use MS Paint for a Photoshop Contest
Just only post when you have something interesting, or useful to say, and think hard about what you're posting. Make sure that you aren't flaming or the like, and you should be fine
whatever u do don't raid
Woah send me that rad thread.
Read the rules, follow them, understand the mechanics of the bandwagon, common sense.
The Golden is correct.
I've seen 1 or 3 day bans shoot up to 1 week/month because their just being stupid... it's a whole day off facepunch, if Facepunch means that much to you that you can't bear a day away from it, something is very wrong.
-shnip-
if it ain't a perm, wait it out.
Just a heads up, below is probably gonna sound dumb, so go ahead and rate dumb. I would too.
I feel like I might do something wrong without knowing what it was and getting banned,
I see all these people getting banned for weird reasons I can't understand, at least 1-2 users a day.
What are the most common bannable offenses? Just so I can think real hard before I post. Facepunch seems very strict about certain etiquettes,
which I don't mind but meh.. I would just like to avoid the banned ones' fate.
Is this guy for real?
I think it needs to be said, so I'm saying it to avoid confusion:
Non-permanent bans are a means of warning you of your mistakes. They are not permanent punishments, just a reminder that you stepped out of line. After you've been banned for say, 1 day, making a thread in the Refugee Camp (The place you go when banned so you can appeal) will most likely get it extended. Just wait it out.
Too many people make threads bitching about their 1-day bans, try not to do it. You'll save yourself a lot of trouble.
I've never had mine extended. My threads normally consist of apologies where I explain that I've learned my lesson. Also, explaining calmly why I believe I did not deserve the ban/asking for the justification of it.
I've gotten 'em reduced before.
whatever u do don't raid
Unless it's in GMF then it's totally fine.
I lurk and read old threads a lot and I've seen quite a few cases where people have been banned for completely dumb reasons or unwritten rules. From the looks of things, a few bans during your stay at FP are pretty much inevitable. Because of this, I lurk more than I post because I want to keep a relatively clean record.
I personally don't like the punishment system here. Well, I was banned once for posting in a ban-me, but I had that coming (I was about to snip it seconds before I was banned, mind you), but attempting to solve all of our problems by banning instead of giving a fair warning first isn't very nice. vBulletin comes with a warning system for a reason guys, at least put it to some use.
Hi I'm Pirate Cat and I was IP banned due to that whole raiding buisness (And will probably be banned after this post, shit I dunno)
It's kind of ironic that as soon as you log out for the first time in months after being banned you see, probably the best piece of info you can get:
"When in doubt don't post"
That came a bit late for me though, too bad :(
So yeah, don't raid kiddies. It [was] a pretty clear rule.
[editline]04:53AM[/editline]
Oh, and excuses like:
"I didn't spam dicks" or "I was being nice and didn't flame" or the infamous: "I WAS JUST BEING AN E-PATRIOT"
Won't get you anywhere in the Refugee Camp.gl
Most of the time its
- Spam
- Flaming
- Trolling
- Posting in a banme (most of the time start with "facepunch sucks")
- Posting in a parody tread
- Posting in a spam tread
- Posting goats in "if you get a boner you lose"
- Why Reply (just dont say useless/stupid stuf)
EDIT
- back-seat moderator
- Undescriptive tread title
- Wrong section (some times)
- Bumps (Replying to a 2 year old topic without a "good" reason)
- Meme Response
- Img Marco's
- Shitposting (for everything thats stupid and doesn't fit in any of the other sections)
Well as a started you could read the Rules thread before making a dumb thread.
Being banned is nothing unless its a perma, ive been banned several times.
You shouldnt really count yourself as a full member of FP unless you've been around atleast a year and have been banned more than once.
Don't sign up for other forums they might stop liking facepunch and you'll get banned.
Put things in the right sections, read the rules at the top of every section, don't make useless remarks, don't make racist/xenophobic/anti-semitic remarks, don't make stupid useless threads like "MY DICK JUST EXPLODED ALL OVER YM DOG OMFG WAT DO I DO?!!!"

and most of these.
Don't admit to any pirating you've done.
Post something non-related to a thread and expect a "Why Post?" ban from Grea$emonkey:
Bans. Bans everywhere.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
