I dunno, I never read it, I just remember seeing it's the thread title.
Unless we get to the point in technology where microprocessors in the brain can record everything to be uploaded to a new brain.
No, that would only create a copy of your brain that knows everything you do.The original person would die when their brain is removed, same applies to theories of teleportation that involve tearing the individual apart and putting them back together on the other end. A better method would be to have damaged areas replaced with new cell growth, and have memories transplanted from a database, copied annually or something, and parts of the brain that were damaged reactivated, without actually removing/stopping the brains function.
If you're going to transfer someone's consciousness without that person dying, you'd need a way for it to be transferred, in whole and without losing consciousness, like just sliding over onto another 'brain', through nerve cells, to a machine that contains a colony of brain cells or the new brain, excluding any electronics between the two to do the transferring, as those would have to copy what they see and duplicate it on the other end.
Well if they had managed to tap into someone's dream with a computer and wander around it like a virtual environment I'd think it would have made bigger news
Oh fuck, this reminds me of that one video where that guy creates a world in a dream I suppose (Of Course it was CGI and such) but it was pretty awesome. Kind of like a modeling program irl.

Well the one consciousness would technically die but they're materially equivalent to anyone else. Kind of a scary thought.

Yeah, like the scientists that grew a culture of rat brain cells, stuck them in a robot, and got them to control it on their own. Has seizures though, they think it's because of a lack of sensory input, having only vision and all.

If they do it somehow with the cell rebuilding it still wouldn't be you. I mean, we don't know how to transfer consciousnesses. This is why clones wouldn't work either. It just..wouldn't be you. Wouldn't be your conscious. Tbh, we don't even know what a consciousness truely is or what it's made of or how it works. (inb4 religious theories)

But wouldn't the person dying become a moot point? Really there wouldn't be any difference in the person at all (besides the new brain) would there?

Well it would be the exact same as your consciousness except you wouldn't control it. Original you, I mean.

Ok sorry well you don't seem like you suffered too much in the nice beaches of florida.
Haha half of this thread is discussing Dreams and Consciousness, while the other is arguing about the hood.

Would you even sense dying though? Wouldn't it be like "I was just at point A and now I'm at point B. :science:"? You know, instantaneous?
Everything you said about me is insanley inaccurate and funny as fuck coliah. I didn't grow up in Atlanta. I moved here two/three years ago. I hate this place and I don't even live in a suburb. I live in a place near where there is a corner gas station, home invasions and fucking junkies/drug dealers. Please stfu. I'm not acting "black".
Well the one consciousness would technically die but they're materially equivalent to anyone else. Kind of a scary thought.
Yes, so if you just want another one you could just make a clone, and let the original live. You could even create a consciousness-less disposable body and let them control it from the comfort of their own, by remote control. They might go into shock if it accidentally died if you don't keep them focused on the fact that it's not their real body, though, but that would at least not kill them.

like we said before, it wouldn't truely be you. yes, it'd be you, but you wouldn't be connected to the consciousness.
I think if they could emulate a consciousness electronically, they could transfer it electronically through a database to a new brain. but...emulating a consciousness is kind of hard :v:
Would you even sense dying though? Wouldn't it be like "I was just at point A and now I'm at point B. :science:"? You know, instantaneous?
No, it would be like I'm at point A and then my consciousness ceases to be while a perfect replica of me with all my past memories is created at point B.
Are you fucking kidding me?
just go away ashley

Well obviously you don't try to bring people 'back to life' if the consciousness dies then, I meant replace other parts, just let the vegetables' bodies go, they're gone anyway.
