How does the US suck at science?[/QUOTE] The Higgs discovery was made at the Large Hadron Collider, which is located in Europe, and chiefly funded by European science institutes (the US contributed only a few hundred million dollars). The US *was* going to build our own, competing collider, the Superconducting Super Collider, which would have been twice as powerful. We spent two billion dollars on it before Congress cancelled it, with only a large hole and several buildings completed. Had it been completed, we would likely have found the Higgs Boson a decade ago. Such things seem to be happening frequently in the US. We come up with a good thing to do, get funding for it, but then Congress cuts it, *after* spending a ton of money but *before* anything gets finished (see: half the things NASA tries to do). Europe at least commits to things and gets them done.

I think that's fantastic that they've found substantial evidence for the Higgs Boson, but why would he make such an unnecessary, snide comment like that about his own country.

Back when America used to actually do science they were the tops, now any amitious project gets it's funding cut before anything can be done. See NASA.
