I think this is the point where you need to decide what you're going to do with it exactly. I'm sure it'd be just fine for a time if you put it back outside and kept your cat in for a couple of days, but if you decide on keeping it then you'll have to be willing to pay for a visit to the vet and get any open wounds closed.
As of right now, the situation depends strongly on how much the vet will cost. Keeping a little mouse fed or separated from the cat isn't a problem. [editline]25th July 2014[/editline]
Looks even bloodier than before too. Lots of red on the bread...
There's no red on the bread, it's just the terrible noisy camera playing tricks on you :P I'll switch out the paper on the floor today. That way we'll see if he leaves blood markings today.
I don't have much to do at the moment, might as well give it a second chance to live.
At the very least you're giving the little guy a warm place as well as food and water. If he doesn't make it through the night at least he gets to be in someplace cozy. You done good.

I'll pray for Taco's survival tonight.
Well, he did just survive the night :p I only just woke up.
Silly me for not seeing you were in Norway :v: Glad to hear it.
I'll put a local clock on the stream. [editline]25th July 2014[/editline] Done.
reminds me of when my cat brought a live bat back in my house. It started flying around like crazy, eventually I caught it and examined the specimen: the little shit was staring at me with a sadistic grin and was clawing at my hand. eventually I let it go

I've always wanted to see one!

What a fighter. Now give him a robe and a cane.
Apparently when treating a rodent for shock the best thing to do is to keep them warm and to keep them away from stressful situations. A hot water bag or some source of heat that he can move away from would be good.
Any injured or sickly mouse is likely to be in shock. Until such time as you can obtain professional care for the mouse it is important to keep it warm and away from stress factors. House the mouse in something secure – a cardboard box will not hold the mouse if he’s alert or when he starts feeling better. A carrier designed for pet mice or a secure household container (with suitable air holes added) is good. The airing cupboard is an ideal place to put the mouse temporarily. Normal room temperature will not be enough so if you don’t have an airing cupboard, place a hot water bottle underneath half of the container so that the mouse can move away from the heat source if desired. You can offer the mouse water in a shallow dish such as a jam jar lid and sprinkle in some food such as birdseed, cereal and biscuit or fresh food such as apple and carrot. Avoid handling the mouse as much as possible as doing so will cause it stress. A mouse bite is also a lot more painful than you might think!
Is it possible that Taco has some kind of internal injury?
He lives!
That is actually quite a bit of blood I see everywhere. It seems like a few drops worth spread around, which for a mouse is more significant than a human but it doesnt seem to be bleeding profusely. Based on where it was just sitting for some time next to the water bowl, and where the fresh blood spot is, it is bleeding from an area close to the middle of its belly, possibly a little farther down.
Get some super glue and seal up it's wound WWII Style.
it used to sit in that spot with the blood, it sat there for a while it looks pretty bad still :(

Because a bottle of warm water is going to increase the overall heat inside the cage a bit. [editline]25th July 2014[/editline] I think I'll switch out all the bloody tissues now.
Thanks for the tip. So, just to confirm, they like it WARMER than normal room temperature? http://www.allaboutmice.co.uk/help-with-wild-mice/ The article says to put the hot water bottle underneath one side of the enclosure. It will raise the temp of the whole thing a bit but it probably wont make it super hot. I imagine if its comfortable for you its comfortable for the mouse.

Give that trooper a bit of carrot, its gotten this far.
Give that trooper a bit of carrot, its gotten this far.
I'll be going to the store and buying various foodstuffs for it. [editline]25th July 2014[/editline] Ok, so to sum up the words of the veterinary: "What, just a mouse? Whatever, just kill it. Let the cat take it." ..... [editline]25th July 2014[/editline] Guess I'm on my own then. Well, with the help of you guys.
I'll be going to the store and buying various foodstuffs for it.
Also don't forget the liquid hydrogen, liquid nitrogen, radio control transmitter, GPS system, radio control flight pack, a flight attitude control system, something we can use as parachute, fiberglass sheet, polystyrene sheet and duct tape.
With the amount its bleeding, if you just give it food, water, and keep it warm, it will probably pull through. Im no expert but I imagine if it really had any serious internal injury or internal bleeding it would probably be dead by now. You shouldnt rule out infection but I think most of the symptoms we see here are from blood loss and stress. Also
Wow okay, another veterinary, a woman this time, called me back and asked if she could help me with it. She thought that the dude had been pretty bitter and tasteless, and she'll see what we can do about it. She'll call me back.

Ok so basically, the veterinary service here very limited. The woman called me back and said that she was already working overtime and could not make time for another operation. The vet is closed all weekend, too. Anyhow, she came with a whole bunch of tips on how to keep it alive, and was actually sincerely worried about it herself. Proper veterinary.

The bleeding is continuous, I honestly don't think he will pull through if it doesn't stop.
