(A lot of feelings in this post) I feel like certain branches of modern academia have gone so far in knowledge production that regular people can't even connect to it in their everyday lives. Such is the case when you really delve into philosophy and realize all these new fascinating things and think, "Wow...I could have gone through my entire life without knowing this, and it wouldn't of made a damn difference. But, at the same time I think it's so crucial for people to know." (That was my recent personal realization). There's this very specific medium to explain philosophy that I have come across this past year. This medium is through performance (e.g. telling fictional stories, reading poems, etc.) I feel like video games would do such a good job explaining many complicated philosophical teachings that could educate people far more than what educational video games have been able to encompass. What I've seen is that a lot of educational video games have been labeled as "A game that tries to make 1+1 fun," and will always be boring because the root of that video game is just to explain a very absolute, mundane topic. But, in the specifics of philosophy. There are certain questions like the "meaning of life" or anything that delves into metaphysics like the way humans perceive themselves that I think certain video games would just destroy (in a good way) at explaining. I will admit, there are probably a lot of video games that deal with certain common philosophical tropes like the whole "meaning of life" shit I just said. But, after really getting into philosophy this year. I know there is so much more that is so deep (and sadly lost) within modern academia, that would do such a service to the greater world to understand. Just my late night thoughts...
