How does a creature make itself able to handle a banana?
There's two suggestions here: It caused itself to be able to handle it, or it arrived there by random chance. With a redesigned hand, it would probably lose whatever function it's normal hands served, resulting in it's death. It either forced itself to be like that, which is stupid, or arrived there by a genetic accident, resulting in the aforementioned death via incompatible environment.

This is why I'm going in circles trying to figure out why everyone accepts it unquestioningly. Okay, how do these characteristics get dropped? All of the plants in the area have the useful and un-useful ones. Why are they going to disappear? I can't lose any of my un-useful traits.
