It's because it's a spectrum or something, and when the light from the sun hits it at different angles it changes colors, such as at dawn and dusk when it can be noticeably pink or purple.

As explained, it's due to Rayleigh Scattering. Particles much smaller than the wavelength of electromagnetic radiation will 'scatter' it out in different directions. Shorter wavelength light is scattered more than longer wavelength light (and, in terms of increasing wavelength, the colours of light go blue, green, red), so we see blue light down here.
However light which isn't scattered as much travels in a straight line from the sun to our eyes across the planet when the sun is 'low' (sunset or sunrise), and, red light, being the longest in wavelength of visible light, is the least scattered, meaning that it can travel in a straight line to our eyes at sunset/sunrise while the blue lights is scattered down to Earth elsewhere where it's daytime. That's why sunsets appear orange/red.
