Rap Vs Rock - General - Facepunch Forum

I think that both have generally gone downhill in the last decade.

I prefer rock, but that doesn't mean I hate rap. I like a lot of hiphop music, if you can count that, it's just gangsta rap I really dislike. I do quite like a lot of Australian Hiphop, being the Aussie I am. Overall, I have to vote rock though, there's just so much more rock music I like, and all my favourite bands are rock, desert rock, psychedelic rock, etc

New Rock. Three Days Grace, Muse, Cage the Elephant, Saving Abel, Shine Down, etc. Mainly the slower type of rock.

Original hip hop artists, the guys with the turntables and the Roland 808s and the thousands of cue marked vinyl records put most rock artists to shame. THAT is some real skill. Thugs ruined the scene though.

I think its what sounds good over what takes skill. I can imagine theres some thing that are hard to do but still sound like crap. It's kinda like what Owl City does may not take "skill" But I still like the sound. Well I guess it takes something but either way you get my point. But then again I love rock and rap :)

Becoming a mainstream artist of the genre either requires selling yourself out, or having no talent whatsoever and spending five minutes making a beat on Logic Pro then talking over it. That's why in general I only view proper rap or hip hop as more underground. I don't like the two different types being crammed into one package for the sake of generalisation, they should remain separate.

True gangsta rap will always carry a heavier weight than this shit.

I prefer to listen to the instrumentals and raw DJ work, but that isn't exactly rap.
