If you go on indieDB, you find all these edgy 'scary' games which are all lame jump scares or Jeff the Killer's face plastered all over the place. I downloaded tons of these games with a friend, and lemme tell ya, I'm a real jumpy person and I hate scary games, but these sp00ky abominations were nothing more than laughable. Of course they're startling at some points, but it gets predictable and old after you see the same face 10 times.
There was one game that did make me involuntarily scream my lungs out, and oddly enough, it was a parody of all the horrible indie horror games I had played. The game? You go to a low poly house and meet the low poly people and if you go the wrong way, the 'monster' will pop up in front of you and scream. The monster was nothing more than a black stick figure with a cartoonish gaping mouth, nothing you would normally call frightening. The game was extremely bland and if you just went through it slowly, nothing bad would happen. Walking around the house, it felt like a non-horror game, It was quiet and after a while I didn't expect anything. After a bit of wandering, I head for the door and almost like clockwork, the 'monster' pops up in front of me with the loudest noise I've ever heard from my speakers. I yelled for what felt like 5 seconds, and then the credits for the game rolled and it exited out.
I was dumbfounded, how could something so stupid and unscary make me scream?
I have no clue what made me yell; the graphics were bland yet unsettling and there was no sound. Perhaps a good startle is all it takes?

I think the first one I fell for was the maze-thing you had to navigate with your mouse. At one point, there's an extremely narrow hallway and you naturally get closer to screen to see better and YEAAAAAAAAAAARGGGGGGGGGGGGGH heart-attack occurs.

I remember I was really attached to some Russian radio signal that was being broadcast in some remote area and it randomly puts out really creepy shit like Morse code or sometimes voices rarely so when it happens everyone flips shit. Everyone thought one day it was the Russian nuke launch codes being transmitted between russia and another country. I think it started with a U and then a number.
