Buy a wallet chain with the money then check the ID and return it with the chainand the rest of the money.

I was in a situation like this once when I was 12... I actually found 200 dollars on the floor of a walmart. I ended up handing it over to the man at the register (With a little encouragement from my mother). Turns out no one ever came looking for the lost money so the store called us up and let us keep the money.

Always hand it in. Even if there's no ID then yeah, they'll probably go back to look for it. Because I'd expect people to do the same if I lost something.
