There was a bit of that to. I'm a bit confused what too do now.
I got Battlefield 3 for Christmas and when I put it into Origin it says the key's already been used.
I spent an hour and a half on the phone with EA support and at the end they managed to tell me that the key had already been used and they couldn't do anything about it.

I had the same issue, but I was told my key was a digital copy one even though I had the box right next to me.
