You should use CGI for things you can't do with practical effects. Like in Star Wars, the opening scene to A New Hope is a long shot of the underside of one of the Empire's ships as they hunt down, and fire on, Leia's ship. It was impressive because of the composition of the shot and the fact that they had to build intricate models of the ships. In Revenge of the Sith the opening shot is a long, panning shot of a star ship as Obi-Wan and Anakin fly passed it. The shot isn't impressive because the composition is poor and the GC effects don't look great, there are hundreds of ships in the background firing on each other but it's impossible to tell who is against who and there's just a ton of shit going on. Though in that case there's also the fact that A New Hope had a small ship pursued and attacked by a huge, intimidating ship, but in Revenge of the Sith you just see ships, lasers, and explosions.
Everything looks better when it's real.

I always appreciate Pacific Rim's use of sets, because this: Would have been much easier to do entirely with CGI. But thankfully, they stuck with physical sets and practical effects, and only used CGI to compliment the scene. Looks much MUCH better as a result.
Overgrowth has got to be one of the worst game I've ever played. It's seriously worse than bad rats.
Game Grumps is not funny
CGI effects are not inherently bad or evil.
Except when they use it for gore/gun wounds, fucking TERRIBLE, instantly shit Walking Dead uses practical and CG and you can REALLY tell when they use digital blood because it looks cheap and terrible every single time Just use blood packs pls
We are long overdue for a Humble Movie Bundle.
I don't like COD. Oh wait, no one likes COD now. At least I'm not alone for this one.
Overgrowth has got to be one of the worst game I've ever played. It's seriously worse than bad rats.
wow it's almost like Overgrowth is still in prealpha and not a game yet
I don't like COD. Oh wait, no one likes COD now. At least I'm not alone for this one.
The thread title is right at the top Also there are people who like cod.
wow it's almost like Overgrowth is still in prealpha and not a game yet
lmao It's been in that stage for like a year now. I honestly do not care if its still in prealpha or not. If they call it a game, and they're selling it, I have every right to be upset with the product.
Petrol smells really nice and I would totally buy an air freshener in that scent.
shadow of chernobyl was in development limbo for 6+ years and it still came out fine. you're judging a prototype, not a completed product
I'm not saying it's going to be garbage until the end of time wtf Currently it's shit. People say it's good but I say it's pretty shit. If they make changes that make it decent then I will say it's not shit.
there's an early access warning that is clear as day on the store's page.
Doesn't make it not shit
Doesn't make it not shit
you're playing an incomplete version of the game. of course some bits and bobs are going to be missing, or need to be revised. saying it's shit while knowing what you're getting into is repetitive. direct some actual constructive critique to the dev team instead of just lambasting it.
you're playing an incomplete version of the game. of course some bits and bobs are going to be missing, or need to be revised. saying it's shit while knowing what you're getting into is repetitive.
Yeah that makes it reasonably awful. But it's still pretty awful. There are people who are calling this GOTY.
It's his opinion, he doesn't like the game, and that's completely understandable, why are you guys even giving a shit
It's his opinion, he doesn't like the game, and that's completely understandable, why are you guys even giving a shit
what's the point of sharing an opinion and not discuss it afterwards
It's his opinion, he doesn't like the game, and that's completely understandable, why are you guys even giving a shit
i'm an amateur game dev so people ripping off on games without giving valid critique is pretty much something that you learn that happens from observing other WIP projects out of interest or inspiration. there's also nothing in this thread saying that opinions shouldn't be challenged.
Well that's my informal take on the game. I wasn't even aware that I had to write a multi-paragraph response on why I don't like the game.

Have you seen any one of their dev blogs? Development moves in massive leaps and bounds and they regularly solve massive problems over single weekends. It's an impressive product and it's also PRE ALPHA EARLY ACCESS so you, in fact, have no right to be upset with the product.
Well that's my informal take on the game. I wasn't even aware that I had to write a multi-paragraph response on why I don't like the game.
no one is asking you to write an apa-format essay with a page-long list of citations for your sources. all i'm saying is that people would appreciate it if you didn't give vapid and lazy critique, aka just try to be more in depth instead of saying "this sucks why do people say it's good", because otherwise you are communicating nothing to the dev team.
They're not calling it a game.
Then what on earth is it?
Then what on earth is it?
It's a pre alpha early access engine in progress they'll sell it without the title once it's finished and playable as game. in the same way that simulators and poorly developed games are not games but engines with some playable content, most early access titles are not games.

They just said it is. And they sell it for 30$ too. I think he's allowed to have an opinion on it. They think its finished enough to sell it.
