"Because they just sat around all day" for WWI. (Though I wonder why we don't play WWII games where we're sitting in camp all day waiting for orders, etc...).
And for things before that, either lazy developers don't want to do actual research, or "MUSKETS TAKE TOO DAMN LONG TO RELOAD!!!!". The only community where I've seen games succeed with Muskets and shit is the Mount and Blade modding community (Age of Blood and Iron and Imperialism, Iron Europe, etc...). Plus an official Napoleonic Wars DLC (Which started off as the mod Mount and Musket, and before that Musket Madness). Flying Squirrel, the developers of NW, are working on a Civil War Multiplayer FPS, and there is another Civil War Multiplayer FPS in development as well called "War of Rights".
I mean look at this

most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game save for RO2.
There was also battlegrounds which was a pretty successful revolutionary war mod, but I'm not sure how it's doing these days.
WW1 would probably be harder to make fun. Musket fights are neat to have all the people in line, or just the tension with your one bullet. WW1 on the russian front might work out, but France would be difficult.
PvP Melee combat in an FPS is really hard to do and make it feel good and smooth and fun.
The only PvP games melee seems to work in are RPG types where it's stat based and the Souls games.
What we need is a good civil war fps

Does Chivalry not have good combat in your opinion? Or Mount & Blade?

Or War of the Roses/Vikings.
Or War of the Roses/Vikings.
Can those be played first person, though? Been a while since I played War of the Roses but I think I remember being unable to play in first person.

You know, i don't honestly remember, they just came to mind as medieval games of that sort.

i love mount and blade but tbh it has really shit combat

I think multiplayer combat is pretty good. But singleplayer battles look ridiculous. Especially with the dated graphics, we need a m&b 2 with improved graphics and AI for sure

imo the combat is really floaty; hitting an enemy doesn't feel impactful and attacks feel slow (not in a good meaty way either)

It's decently quick in mount and blade warband unmodded imo. Graphics would probably help the combat look better too. But I certainly agree, Swinging a huge sapper axe and hitting somebody in the side doesn't have much impact.
Edit: also, if you wanna see a game with amazing combat feedback, give shadow warrior a look. Especially the new one
I really don't get how it's Americans who have the internet stereotype for being racist. There are nationalities that act a lot more racist.
I don't understand why people here love to perpetuate the stereotype that Americans think that the USA is the best country hands down. You can pretty much go to any American here and they'll tell you our country has a buttload of problems.

Nah, WWI is easy to do. Look at Verdun (Western Front) and The Trench: 1916, whenever that's coming out. There was also WWI Source.
i love mount and blade but tbh it has really shit combat
In M&B the challenge isnt parrying your opponents weapon, it's actually managing to hit them.
The combat is awful. But its a crazy fun game.

No the object is to chamber as much as possible.
Mario Sunshine is way better than Mario 64

Uh? I think there's something wrong with your game or you're doing something drastically incorrect if you can't hit your enemy.
Floaty combat, I can understand the complaint but I don't agree but I'm not even sure what you mean.

I haven't played a game with more satisfying combat. It's not perfect (and I hope it's improved with M&B2) but I would never call it shit. Especially compared to War of the Roses/Vikings.
most americans might not think their country is the greatest, but a lot of them do think their country is great (most of the time, without having had any experiences with other countries)
it's not like that's not based on anything either, though. america is one of the most (if not THE most) isolated first world countries in the planet. most people in brazil can easily drive down to another country, while a lot of people in europe can even walk to another country's borders.
in america, however, you only have two countries nearby. one of them speaks the same language and has a pretty similar culture, and the other one is almost always only viewed as a tourist attraction (and even then, almost never chosen over other, american ones). also, because of this, a lot less about other countries is reported in the media. this leads, without question, to the american population being more ignorant (and i don't mean this in an offensive way) on foreign culture and international affairs

I really don't like it when Hopeless Suitor characters try to be sexual. Sit your narrow asses down somewhere. If you could pull that off convincingly, you wouldn't be in this mess.

If that were the case, canada would be even worse for that, which it isn't.
If that were the case, canada would be even worse for that, which it isn't.
canada is naturally multicultural because of french influence though, and has a very low population, aka one that's easier to educate
you might say that america is also heavily influenced by foreigners, and i'd argue that it's still not viewed the same way as it is in canada
canada is naturally multicultural because of french influence though, and has a very low population, aka one that's easier to educate
The US is also quite multicultural. By ethnicity statistics it's more multicultural than Canada.

I see alot of Confederate Flags in Western Canada.

i edited my post. it's not something that's as deeply rooted as it is in canada, and is mostly viewed as a modern thing. where i stayed in america (middle of nowhere basically), i met plenty of people who had never met a foreigner (that wasn't an immigrant), for example.
I see alot of Confederate Flags in Western Canada.
I have yet to see a single confederate flag anywhere in canada. Because thats a decidedly southern american thing.
Does Chivalry not have good combat in your opinion? Or Mount & Blade?
They're okay but combat in those games doesn't have the variety of Dark Souls or the first person fluidity that shooters like Halo and (forgive me) call of duty have
I have yet to see a single confederate flag anywhere in canada. Because thats a decidedly southern american thing.
Further north and west you go the less you see them. There are plenty here in southwest ohio.
And I dunno if this is unpopular but I think that the Confederate flag isn't something that people should wave around. If you wanna celebrate southern heritage use your state flag
Well, yeah. Medieval combat wasn't exactly fluid and didn't have a lot of variety for the most part.

From a historical standpoint that's really not all that true. A large amount of America's original colonists were of non-English descent, quite a bit of the territory that now makes up the US used to belong to France and Spain/Mexico. And the peoples who settled in America from Eurasia were of a wide variety of nationalities.
Also might I ask about where it was you stayed in America? And for that matter what your frame of reference for Canada is?

by "not as deeply rooted" i'm talking about the multiculturalism. in countries that have had large influx of immigrants, you often see people trying to preserve all that culture, but what is there to preserve in america, where that influx is still huge? my theory is that it makes patriotism even stronger.
and i stayed in mcdowell county, NC. not exactly the smallest or least populated one out there, but still a big change from a city with 1.5 million people. as for canada, i admit that most of what i know is from talking to canadians i've met while traveling.
since you asked me that, may i ask you: what other countries have you been to? and did you stay in any of them for long?
