What also pains me is the senseless hatred over laws like Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine, especially after the backlash following the Zimmerman trial. Why take away the right to self-defense? Without those laws, you'd be incriminating thousands or more Americans every year.
iirc those laws promote a really unhealthy outlook on self-defence, to the point that murder is sanctioned in cases where the only transgression was on access to ones property. An assumed act of self-defence is presupposed to be a response to an active threat when often there isn't an actual threat to oneself. If anything, they take nuance out of the legal system in favour of a simplistic view of the defense of property. [editline]21st May 2014[/editline] also organise your gun cabinet
Now I'm not a sports person myself, but the whole internet-popular opinion of "sports are a waste of time" definitely reinforces the stereotype of basement-dwelling internet nerd. which is a shame b/c for the most part that's not true
I border on the textbook definition of a basement-dwelling nerd and I still like sports. I only really care for baseball and hockey (and even then, it's only when the Red Sox/Bruins are playing), but it still counts. Sports aren't a waste of time, it's a form of entertainment like watching a movie or playing a video game. I still think the fact that sports players make five times more than doctors, police officers, firemen, etc. is fucking ridiculous though.
I still think the fact that sports players make five times more than doctors, police officers, firemen, etc. is fucking ridiculous though.
They make that money because of the amount of people that watch sports, the more money teams make the more the players get payed. Still, one fuckup could ruin an athletes career and there are a lot of sports where they put their bodies on the line for the sake of the fans, people shouldn't blame them for how much money they make but the system itself
here's one of mine: i think naruto is a good show Nah fuck it who am I fooling, but really. I think anime is the shit, and watch it on a regular basis. (Minus the crap ofc) But I don't ever talk about it in real life or to anyone I know, I just keep that one thing to myself, because I don't want to be bunched in with annoying anime fans who come across as socially inept autists, and the generally annoying fanbases. Also talking about it in real life would just feel.. weird.
I still think the fact that sports players make five times more than doctors, police officers, firemen, etc. is fucking ridiculous though.
Not really, private companies have the right to pay their employees what they want. In the case of sports, players bring their employers a lot of business. The players that are at the top of their field are the ones making millions. The grand majority of athletes are on relatively normal wages.
America's gun culture scares me
It scares you because you don't understand it. People who don't understand things are usually scared of them, no matter what it is.
i think that collecting them is weird because they were designed to kill things. i think that's weird for the same reason i think putting up animal heads as trophies on your wall is weird. just my opinion. as for defending yourself and your property, there's nothing inherently wrong with it, but i feel like everyone in america is way too paranoid when it comes to that subject. getting a gun to defend yourself seems like a priority to a lot of people, even in areas with very low crime rates. is it wrong to be ready for everything? no, but it seems like americans have it way too high on their list of priorities
Well your opinion is weird. Gabe Newell collects knives, those were designed to kill things. Is that weird? Not really no, because it's a hobby, he not going to suddenly go around stabbing people because of it, he just likes them and that should be it. As for the ownership of guns and why we so strongly believe in being allowed to have them: our country was founded on the principles of gun ownership since we had just finished up fighting a war against a government that wanted to control us limit our rights, damn right we're going to be paranoid as we don't want that to happen again and it's a very real threat. That's primarily what the guns are for, to prevent our government from doing what the British tried to do to our ancestors.

Politics and everything relating to it is fucking stupid.

The British didn't try to remove guns from the colonies, it tried to remove guns from revolutionaries. As for rights you may be confusing the American war for independence with the American civil war, in which the South fought for the 'right' to keep (black) people as slaves. Which they thankfully lost.

He said, that in order to prevent another tyrannical leader/Gov't the right to bear arms was written into the bill of rights.
lot more fun than talking his ear off about ~~ideals and good values and friendship~~ until he either turns to the good side or kills himself.
This can be done well.

And no I don't think I'm confusing the two, both were fought for the rights, one was the right for true freedom and liberty (which is debatable wether or not we actually achieved this fully), the other over states rights.
Jesus can we just drop it? I swear the USA's gun culture is the only thing that sparks off more arguments than MLP.
i don't understand because i'm a foreigner? what the fuck is your point?
Could you guys just take it to PMs?
Jesus can we just drop it? I swear the USA's gun culture is the only thing that sparks off more arguments than MLP.
At least they're more intelligent arguments than ones caused by MLP.
At least they're more intelligent arguments than ones caused by MLP.
Hahaha "Guns scare me" "Yer a foreigner you just don't get our freedom" Rinse and repeat x100
Hahaha "Guns scare me" "Yer a foreigner you just don't get our freedom" Rinse and repeat x100
Not really, with gun control debates people usually cover some history behind the situation, often explain motives, sometimes cite statistics and examples, more often than not at least one person on each side tries to apply logic to the debate, even if the arguments are repetitive and get nowhere, with MLP it's just "I like something different" "You're autistic LOL Fedora joke XDXD" <more detailed explanation of why they have an opinion> "You're autistic LOL Fedora joke XDXD" repeat until locked/banned
They're both stupid arguments At least on the internet
Despite knowing and reading up on the fucked up shit the government has done I still believe that America is still one of the best countries on earth.
Despite knowing and reading up on the fucked up shit the government has done I still believe that America is still one of the best countries on earth.
going by freedom, economic wellbeing, safety, health, etc america is doing pretty good yeah it has problems of course, but problems are usually created as a result of solving old ones american healthcare is expensive because its now treating difficult cancers instead of easily preventable diseases like polio or smallpox people aren't starving anymore, but they're obese. a country which has obesity as a bigger problem than famine is one going on the right track imo

I don't think capitalism is the root of the world's problems. [editline]1[/editline] Um, seems like I came in at a time where something relevant was already being debated...
We're still undernourished despite being overfed.
well the point is that people in first world countries don't really have famines anymore
I don't think capitalism is the root of the world's problems.
I think this is a popular position. Most of the world embraces capitalism for a reason.
i don't understand because i'm a foreigner? what the fuck is your point?
You should read your posts. This is just awful.
