it's not so much that, it's that the response to it was completely cocked up
things did begin to improve significantly in the 1990s, and are better today than in the 1950s
i like freedom and democracy too much for that
of course, attacks on freedom can come from any part of the political spectrum
Oh god he's defensive
this clearly means he's slipping back into his communist days. SH has been lacking in a far leftist with no regard for what others keep telling him for quite awhile.

Pigs will fly before Sobotnik becomes a communist. Also shouldn't you be satisfied with [Seed Eater] being SH's resident far-leftist?

I'm still unsure what exactly you don't like about the 1960s counterculture. It's not particularly convincing to attribute the rise of crime and drop in convictions from the period 1970 to 1990 to hippies, beatniks and marxists.

There's still explaining the massive loss of faith in institutions and the decline of people generally trusting the state to solve problems.
It seems more than a coincidence that a huge anti-establishment movement kicked up around the time, and that a lot of the big actors and musicians tended to glorify violence and attacks on social norms through both their work and lifestyle. Keith Moon beat up his wife and daughter and then ran over his bodyguard before dying of the customary drug overdose. The Black Panther guy advocated rape in his book as a "revolutionary act". Violence or use of force against authority, and ignoring rules was encouraged, and this contributed to the rise in crime, largely because the whole culture around it changed.
Try telling my mom that. She'll give you an endless supply of sources from shady sites proving you wrong all while telling you your legitimate sources are biased or flat out wrong despite having actual evidence compared to hers.
Do we share the same mom? My mom is exactly like that.
People who argue in favor of the ratings system because it "stops 10 different people from telling someone that they're dumb when they can just rate the person dumb" are wrong as hell. How many threads do you see where someone says something stupid and you have over 10 different people (or more) each telling that person how stupid and dumb they are?

The principle of "stopping potential unnecessary posts" applies more to the simpler ratings like agree, disagree, and funny. Would you really rather be reading a thread where the OP posts a funny video or picture and at least 80% of the first forty posts are "LOL :) thats so funny xDDDD!!!!!!!!!" or any variants therein?

And I've seen people argue that it doesn't just apply to agree, disagree, and funny, but to all ratings.

Most other internet forums don't use a rating system and they tend to go through the exact scenario I just described (and if they don't, they just get one or two replies that are usually posts like that, and then the thread dies forever. Kind of depends on the population of the forum). Maybe it wouldn't be an immediate change on Facepunch if we removed ratings for an extended period of time/forever, but in a matter of months, or maybe even a year or two, I'd theorize that we would have plenty of "xD z0mg my sides are in le orbit lolololol" posts shitting up new threads about something amusing. Or tons of "i agree" posts. Or tons of "i disagree" posts. So on and so forth.
Not sure if unpopular but I hate youtubers who shoehorn their face into every single thumbnail.
Actually it's one of the most popular opinions on this site, but it's still very agreeable.
I think getting upset by youtube thumbnails is obnoxious even if it really is a annoyingly popular use
I dislike facecams on streams or YT videos just for the sake of having a facecam.
I dislike facecams on streams or YT videos just for the sake of having a facecam.
Especially when they take up to half of the screen.

Facecams should really just be where they are needed, and that is in horror games (and really really really hard games.)

Im perfectly ok with them being on horror games and the like because it makes sense, you want to see the player crap themselves. But for games like Minecraft or CoD (only using these as examples) there is just no need what so ever.
star citizen has like the worst fanbase/hype ever, especially for a game that's not even released yet

I never cared for the Gamecube's controller.
I never cared for the Gamecube's controller.
The GameCube's controller has always been my favorite. If anything, I think the Nintendo 64's controller was god awful. In most games you'd have one hand on the right side of the controller where A, B, and the C buttons are, and the other would be on that weird, jutting spike going down the middle with the joystick and the Z button underneath. They hardly required you to switch to the left side to use the D-pad, so your hands were usually squished together awkwardly with the remaining 1/3rd of the controller sticking off to the side while you played.
Speaking of controllers, I really can't stand Xbox 360 controllers, I prefer Playstation style ones.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent isn't as scary as people say it is.

Personally I preferred the Penumbra games.
Tupac and the Beatles are overrated.
Dubstep is too hated on this forum.

Not mine
Everything I say is fact
Dubstep is too hated on this forum.
It just kind of bores me to listen to it on it's own, it's alright in things such as background music in games. It's probably because there are usually few lyrics, if any, and I really like going through song lyrics which explains why I like rap a lot I guess.
Also, people need to stop saying electronic artists aren't playing real instruments or that it takes "no skill", who cares as long as the final product is good.
Dubstep is too hated on this forum.
While I don't like Dubstep at all, I think it's dumb that people go out of their way to hate it.
Same with most musical genres.
