Valve has done a lot of stupid shit that they should be criticized harsher for, but people tend to ignore it and let it slide because they're not part of EA or some shit.
But they're the saviors of gaming!!
valve fanboys
Valve fanboys annoy me more than any other group on the internet. They're completely and utterly blind to any of Valve's downfalls. It kinda reminds me of that news article that stated that Mac fans tend to be almost religious about their reverence of Apple products. It's the same sort of bullshit with Valve from what I've seen.
I liked some of the older FF games, but there's no denying VII is extremely overrated.
FFVII sucks. FFII (specifically the GBA remake) is the best in my opinion. Also I actually enjoyed FFX-2. And that's saying something cause I don't even like those shitty active time battle systems. Admittedly the story itself though was kinda crappy.
Steam's issue is that Valve really doesn't like bugfixing and tends to focus on expansion and new features and such a lot more. And I mostly agree with you on their games. Portal and Portal 2 I think are both really decent, Portal was more or less outsourced seeing as it directly came from a previously external team. L4D and L4D2 are both alright as well but I think they followed a similar series of events to the Portal series. I personally find HL and HL2 to be extremely overrated and boring. And let's not get into TF2, DoD or CS:S or anything like that which I think is absolutely horrible.
Games were not better back in the day, they are infinitly better today with a lot more production value and finesse. People just grow up and realize that games are only games. Also there were also tons of shitty games back in the day. People glorify the past to much in that regard.
The only thing I really miss from back in the day were non-human characters. I'm only gonna name PS characters because that's what I grew up with, but characters like Ratchet and Clank, Daxter, Sly Cooper and the gang, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, among others are completely absent in this generation of video games. Sure, some of them got a sequel for this generation, but no new characters at least. Characters in this generation are all human and seem to be either non-descript, suffering from guilt, or out for revenge.

The primary example in my head is Chuck E. Cheese. It was a passing trend.
I personally don't actually think Valve is that good of a developer. Their current magnum-opus, Steam, does indeed have many games for sale and has some nice deals - but it also runs like absolute garbage. It is becoming very bloated, slow, or sometimes completely dysfunctional. And don't even get me started on the constant connection losses. As for their actual games, most of their recent ones are actually out-sourced. The actual Valve-made games have astronomical gaps between them and I really don't think the quality of the end product reflects the time it takes them to make them (or the unmeasurable hype). And there is the in-house tech like the Source engine. Complete and total garbage and still continues to be. It took them almost 9 year to actually turn it into something decent and by that time there have been countless engines made which blow Source out of the water. I don't even think next-gen Source could hold a candle to the upcoming Unreal and ID tech engines. It's just not a field Valve is really skilled in.
I respect your right to an opinion, but I seriously hope not liking valve doesn't become the new cool thing to bandwagon on to. I am not saying you are, but I just think valve seems like one of those things now where people might just jump on to the hate bandwagon. Seriously, there is no reason to not like valve unless you just don't like the style of games they put out. Seriously, compared to companies like Capcom they seem like angels. Also I guess an unpopular opinion is that I don't mind valve time.
If you are under 30, you shouldn't get a kid.
But the best age, to have the healthiest is apparantly around 25, 30 is considered a bit old. IMO, as long as you're stable financially, then it would be fine. If you fancy being woken up every two hours during the night.
duke nukem forever is a great game
Kickstarter only allows people from US or UK to make projects, I hate it.
If you are under 30, you shouldn't get a kid.
Because its a simple trasaction at the supermarket now. actual its the most single painful part of your life for the next 18 years.

[editline]18th May 2013[/editline]
Because its a simple transaction at the supermarket now. I absolutely despise the "If the avatar above you..." or "can the above user's avatar..." threads.
I'm a Republican, but I'm pro choice and pro gay marrige. Churches shouldn't be forced to marry gays if they dont want to. I dislike Obama and his policies. The death penalty is okay. Occupy Wallstreet was bullshit. I like Israel. I like capitalism. I hate "professional gaming" (MLG, Starcraft tournaments, etc) MOBAs are overrated. I think the "Free-to-play" model is exploitative. The only thing good about Steam is it's automatic updates and sales. SH is the worst subforum on FP. Spiders aren't scary. (Oh man I'm gonna get so much shit for this.)
I honestly like some of the songs on the radio today

It's just not a field Valve is really skilled in.
i don't think they're as good as like, nintendo, but come on, they make a lot of really solid games. i don't play TF2 anymore (i played it for a good 4-5 years) but i do truly believe it's one of the best multiplayer games ever created. you just don't see that amount of love poured into a game very often. i also think portal 2 lived up to its hype well enough. dota 2 beta is also very impressive i do think people give them too much praise, and steam definitely isn't the best, but that doesn't make them bad devs. they aren't the gods of gaming or anything but they still genuinely care about the quality of what they make and i enjoy most of their games.
Seriously, there is no reason to not like valve unless you just don't like the style of games they put out.
No? I have some dislike for Valve personally because Steam has become overly awful as they do things to it. They keep adding features, like trading cards and these stupid emoticon things people have shown me while the program itself still takes forever to load up compared to other similar programs, is prone to freezing for minutes at a time for no reason and when they do add something good, like the whole offline messaging, it hardly functions properly but they don't fix it. Not to mention the Big Picture mode, which is stupid and I personally haven't ever used it except by accidentally clicking it and Greenlight, which is good in theory but hasn't really worked out at all. Valve doesn't just make games you know. There are legitimate reasons to dislike them even if you completely disregard their games.
Not to mention the Big Picture mode, which is stupid and I personally haven't ever used it except by accidentally clicking it
This is so fucking annoying. Apparently there's some stupid keyboard shortcut for it that no one seems to know which can activate big picture mode. And half the time I try to exit big picture mode I manage to completely close Steam instead. It's fucking retarded.
I respect your right to an opinion, but I seriously hope not liking valve doesn't become the new cool thing to bandwagon on to. Seriously, there is no reason to not like valve unless you just don't like the style of games they put out.
The only thing I'll give Valve props for is that they can write some pretty amazing characters and universes (with the exception of TF2; they just fucked it up completely by adding an unimportant and unneeded story) but everything else is pretty sub-par in retrospect. They focus on the bigger picture of development and don't put attention to detail afterwards. The only reason they get away with most of the stuff they do is because they involve the community more often than other companies and interact with many of their consumers on a personal level, plus the fact that they consistently kept the Source engine unlocked and supplied dev tools. I can't get past the fact that they're shunting out major user modifications though with each game release (or making it continually hard to do so). So as much as I love Valve for their unique and stylistic approach to gaming, they suck at everything else and you have to realise that no matter much they make themselves messiahs of the gaming communities, they're still a company who are interested in earning a profit. In my humble opinion I don't blame them; I'd want some recognition for my hard work too but I think some people don't recognise that. It all comes down to good business ethics and consumer relations, I suppose.

While we are in the valve bandwagon one thing I really hate alot is the "community experiments" they do with they products. This is one of the things that sink some games.
It is possible to look good in a fedora, unlikely, but possible.
I don't think Freddie Mercury is the best rock singer of all time, he's really charismatic, but there are people with more power in live performances. He's still amazing though.

Mass Effect is without a doubt one of the most overhyped gaming franchises this generation, if not ever.
Mass Effect is without a doubt one of the most overhyped gaming franchises this generation, if not ever.
I love the concept and the environments, the rest is...egh.
Nirvana's shit(like someone before me said) Nickleback to be is better than Nirvana, I really fucking hate that band, especially how glorified it is by people. I'm a socialist who believes that Fascism, Communism, Nationalism, (and others) aren't as bad as they are made out to be, and will work in at a right-time sort of era. (And believe Nationalism is what gets people out on the streets more) In an example of above: For me it's like we need those to keep moving forward, and if you look right now the Democratic-Republican congress warfare bullshit keeps stalling everything in my eyes. In honesty, and I hate it, when I a see a black person, I just say, in my mind, 'black person.' (Don't hate me because of the avatar, thought it was funny.) I have a huge racial thing in my mind right not I'm going through, so sorry bout that. I believe that abortion shouldn't happen unless they were raped, or it could injure the person. I believe in todays era, socially discipline is needed more than intelligence. Also, I like facebook (in response to the hate from FP) because it links me with others and what they're up to.
dr who sucks homestuck sucks (common but whatever) dota 2 is an awful game with an awful community filled with awful, angry people. the biggest paradigm about that game is pretty much this: teammate 1: UGH WE LOST BECAUSE MY TEAM SUCKS teammate 2: UGH WE LOST BECAUSE MY TEAM SUCKS teammate 3: UGH WE LOST BECAUSE MY TEAM SUCKS teammate 4: UGH WE LOST BECAUSE MY TEAM SUCKS teammate 5: UGH WE LOST BECAUSE MY TEAM SUCKS this applies to league of legends too, it's just that i hate dota fans more because i've met nothing but acidic, elitist shitlords when playing.
UGH WE LOST BECAUSE MY TEAM SUCKS
Every fucking team-based multiplayer game ever
also i think the mechanics and gameplay are awful but that's more my issue than the game's.
