One game I wish aged well would be baldur's gate, I just really REALLY want to get into it but man does that interface and control scheme upset me.
Alright, this is much better. I can agree with most of this. The way you said it before (and the way you put it in that Blizzard thread I found) was missing a lot of points, but I see that you've developed your argument into something a lot more rounded. Wow, progress in an internet argument! How often does that happen? All the points about how diversity improves a story are agreeable. Make no mistake, that's not what my issue on the topic is. I just take issue with the attitude that "lack of diversity in any particular story makes it a bad story or a racist story". It kinda comes off as a bit racist against the majority because it sounds like you're just complaining about the majority itself.
In a vaccum, taking a story objectively, I'd agree with you. But when there's a flood of similar games with similar protagonists, it seems like a problem to me. I suppose I'm just kind of disappointed in the games industry when every protagonist seems to have the same ethnic background and personality when there's so much more to explore in writing. It'd be just as large a problem if the industry was dominated by black females, and black females were the main character of most AAA games. It's a stagnancy, to me. And if you're not moving forward, you're decaying. I think I've realized that most of my problem is using my opinion as objective fact, and assuming other people will just "Get" my point without actually explaining myself to them. I don't think a story without minority characters is inherently racist, I just think that the conscious decision to make every character the same in a certain aspect(i harp on about ethnicity, but really this can be generalized to any major aspect of a character) is a bit problematic unless that shared aspect actually adds to the story.
Games like Assassin's Creed.
[t]http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131014122733/assassinscreed/images/d/d6/ACI-Connor.png[/t] Remember that guy? I'm going to copy-paste something from a comment on PC Gamer. Maybe you'll be enlightened.
The truth is, AC3 is the most respectful and important portrayal of indigenous peoples of the Americas in all of video games. It's better than most movie portrayals, even. A Native American main character, a number of Native American supporting characters, all voiced by real Native American actors, speaking real Native American languages, with historically accurate information and a level of education that's not even presented in schools. This was an incredibly important piece of media, let alone an important video game.
Hell, Ubisoft even agreed not to trademark his indigenous name of Ratonhnhaké:ton because every Mohawk name is unique. If you want to complain about lots of AAA games not being diverse, fine. But Assassin's Creed I think is one of the most diverse game series out there.
Normal people believe X. "Smart" people believe Y. Really smart people believe X.
it bothers when people say they want to hurt or kill characters they find annoying. it's like, in this narrative i've been presented, that character isn't the only douche.
Half Life 2's gameplay is serviceable at best. Its not bad, it just... Is. The only things it did new was the stuff like the gravity gun or bugbait, which were just fun gimmicks, not genuine game changers. But the big problem is the gun themselves. Few of them felt good to shoot. I'd argue the only satisfying weapons were the shotgun and AR2. But even then, the shotgun still leaves a lot to be desired compared to other great video game shotguns. I still love the games though
one game i find has not aged as well as i would have expected to is MGS 3. i still love that game but i find it hard to back and play now
Huh, I actually think MGS3 held up really well. I'm coincidentally doing a replay of it right now (hence my earlier post; my mind has been on MGS lately since I'm replaying the series). The gameplay is some of the best in the entire series, in my opinion, and the cinematics are great. The graphics were ahead of their time (what with the original PS2 version carrying a pretty low framerate).
Making huge deals about other internet communities is dumb.
Making huge deals about other internet communities is dumb.
And hilarious in some cases. I mean, just look at tumblr's drama with 4chan.
I think the newer Robocop movie was actually pretty good. I haven't seen the original yet, so I can't compare it, but I admit the newer one does seem a little underwhelming compared to what I know so far about the plot of the original.
Sorry, I was thinking more of the controversy with Unity and the franchise's standing as a major Triple-A title.
The controversy was largely uninformed, the complain was there are only male characters in the 4 player coop, when in fact there is only one character with palette swap copies. Not that that makes the excuses any less bullshit. As far as Assassin's Creed goes it has a pretty diverse group of main characters. Desmond is an American of European and Middle-Eastern Descent Altair is Arabic with a Christian mother and a Muslim father Ezio is a rich Italian guy Connor is half white, half Native American Aveline is French-African Edward is a poor Welshman Adéwalé is an ex-slave from Trinidad Arno is a French guy All we need now is an Asian character and the series will have ticked all the cultural boxes, feudal Japan or the Chinese dynasties sometime soon.
I like a lot of music genres that a lot of people here seem to hate. Only if they're done well ofcourse. Big room house and dubstep for example.
Tribes Vengeance
I think the Tribes series was awful. Its predecessor Starsiege, while not even an fps, was tons better and they should have just gone with the sequel to that rather than Tribes.
It's stupid to be proud of your race, country you were born in, or anything else you can't control. Takes away from the meaning of the word "proud".
It's stupid to be proud of your race, country you were born in, or anything else you can't control.
And hilarious in some cases. I mean, just look at tumblr's drama with 4chan.
Its pretty boring and disheartning seeing no-lifes wasting their time posting distasteful pictures back and forth People really need to stop caring how someone else spends their time and on what they believe in.
Normal people believe X. Smart people believe Y. Really smart people believe X.
Give me one example
Give me one example
Well, normal people believed in slavery in the 1600s, but.... wait, fuck
Give me one example
Education and child-rearing.
Give me one example
Normal people believe vaccinations do not cause autism. "Smart" people believe vaccinations cause autism. Really smart people believe vaccinations do not cause autism. Would've helped if Emperorconor used quotation marks like I did, it adds to the real meaning.
#1: I don't like the recent crusades against people who pre-order games, are people really scum if they pre-order a game they possibly want to play? #2: there are some really good early access games, but I understand there are some unfinished games as well *cough*DayZ*cough* #3: (which may be related to #1) I like gamestop employees, I feel like I can really have conversations with those people, and I do sometimes when I have enough time. but I'm not gonna fight people who hate gamesop because gamestop's a business. so these opinions are probably unpopular amongst FacePunch :v:
World at War is best CoD

I hate showering. I still shower daily, because, ya know, if I didn't, gross, but... I hate it.
Showering daily often is rather unnecessary. We're cleanliness obsessed as a species and any hint of our natural smell is treated as some kind of colossal farce.
#1: I don't like the recent crusades against people who pre-order games, are people really scum if they pre-order a game they possibly want to play?
Who's calling pre-orderers scum? You can do whatever you want with your money; anyone who blames the consumers personally are an idiot. The crusade is against the publishers, who are exploiting the prevalence of pre-orders for shady business tactics like sectioned-off game content, review embargoes, and multiple 'editions' with frivolous bonuses to goad collectors into buying the game multiple times. It's been festering for a while, and now it's growing into ridiculousness with games like Watch_Dogs (with like twenty different editions all exclusive to certain countries/stores) and Aliens: Colonial Marines (false advertising riding on the back of review embargoes). And now we have GameStop looking to work directly with publishers to secure even more exclusive gameplay to be ripped out of full games all in the name of getting customers to pre-order at GameStop. It's disgusting. Though I will say that if there are no reviews for a game, the game isn't obscure/low stock, or there isn't some massive discount for pre-ordering then there's zero reason to pre-order it. Modern abundance of both physical and digital games means you could just walk in on launch day and pick it up regardless of whether you pre-ordered it. There are so many people who pre-order the next Call of Duty...but why? Do you seriously think a massive AAA release like Call of Duty will be in short supply? Or do you really think you need an extra digital skin for your digital gun?
Don't care, if you don't shower daily you're gross as fuck.
