Well yeah but in particular I mean people like how TheFilmSlacker used to be where they were actively causing a significant part of their own problems and just wanted to whine about it and ignored all advice that tried to help at best and got hostile towards the advice giver at worst, often with the rest of the regulars coming to back them up for it. (Not meaning to pick on you or anything FilmSlacker, it was just the best example that came to mind.)
True but he did more or less get off his ass and fix a fair few of his problems. Sometimes people might feel too beat up to attempt anything at the time, but will try to do something about it later. But truth be told it wasn't as bad as Ryu-Gi in the GD thread, though he too fixed his life wonderfully well when he did get around to doing it.
I don't hate milkandcooki with a passion.
I feel a lot of people demonize him for his view-points alone, and not the way he presents it.
His viewpoints aren't bad as you said, but his presentation (lower case letters in the whole paragraph, overuse of exclamation marks and randomly capitalized words) is annoying
Personality & similarities are the most important things in a friendship.
Personality & similarities are the most important things in a friendship.
Is that even unpopular? Appearance is fine to take into account but it's impossible to have a relationship work if both people will end up hating the other's personality, and I doubt anyone will disagree.
I don't dislike or hate any ~bad~ posters like Dub, Sobotnik, WhiteHusky, JtRtheRiPPeR, etc.

I never really understood what was the problem with Sobotnik. I actually kind of liked him
I miss Sobotnik he was my favorite poster.
The way people acted when it came to Swog was fucking embarrassing. They should be ashamed of the way they behaved.
I don't even fucking remember what the deal was with Swog, and I remember not knowing what the deal was with Sobotnik at the time either, and shit, currently I don't know what people's deal with JtR is now other than that he's flamboyant and they don't like the way he looks
Facepunch really has this huge problem with the constant witch hunt for bad users, where instead of burning them we constantly harass them and make jokes about them until eventually they get permabanned, then we hunt for the next targets, and it's fucking obnoxious

"It's ok to act like that to them though they're bad posters!!!" ~ Average person defending the practice.
That's a shit excuse to essentially harass someone. I dislike some posters for sure, but I don't go out of my way to make fun of them or harass them.
Ego is a huge turn off for me. Especially when it is not reasonable.

I don't have anything against the occasional shitty poster but Swog was a non-stop stream of bullshit, same with Dub after a fashion.

The thing is, I don't remember ever seeing any of Dub or Swog's supposed shitposting. All I saw was them defending themselves against people who attacked them for posting in a thread at all.

Well, that was part of the problem. They'd make the occasional shitty post, it'd get dumbed and they'd come back bitching about their ratings and then getting super defensive and argumentative when people were like "Yeah, you're being pretty dumb."
Max is a decent guy, he just lets his emotions get the best of him.
Still not a very good mod though.
My unpopular opinion is actually about my current job pay. I get paid every two weeks and I prefer it that way most of the time since when I have money available to spend, the temptation to spend is way too strong.
What happened?
In a nutshell: Every time Swog tried to post once or twice in a thread lots of people would go 'hey it's Swog' and start dissing him, or make fun of him if his posts were awkward (to be fair, quite a few of them were) and this started going downhill from here, especially if he replied angrily to condescending posts. When he got banned he wrote out an apology in general for behaving like a 'whiny baby as the forums put it' and asked for forgiveness, and that maybe he might be able to come back as a better member of the community some day. Quite touching, really, especially when you consider the vitriol that was flung at him on an almost daily basis.
So what did he do to piss off the hivemind?
Post on Facepunch. People just considered him so bad and dumb and even contrived. Truth be told, I didn't mind him at all except when he started ranting about how mean people were to him, and that would go on for a fair while before it stopped.

The biggest issue from what I saw was that he outright ignored any advice trying to help him at best and took offense to it at worst then focused on the people legitimately attacking him. And due to his inability to take advice combined with his bad habit of whining about things like ratings the way he did, he just kinda brought it upon himself. (Not saying that attacking him like a lot of people was justified, just that he wasn't totally innocent himself either.)

Thats what I've mentioned, such as it is; he shouldn't have risen to the bait. If he had just stuck it out and not gotten upset over what people were talking about him, he might have come out a better poster for it. Well, he'll probably be back another day, we'll see.

yo if people legit think my posts are bad mostly because of formatting and what parts i annunciate, that's an easy fix.
i probably won't be able to figure out if my posts are dumb because a) the viewpoint b) "oh its him" or c) the presentation all the time, but feedback is nice! thanks bRO

also, unpopular: i don't like RTS games. i bought fire emblem on the 3ds a few months back and loaned it to a friend because i just couldn't get into it no matter how hard i tried. like, legit forced myself to play it for hours but didn't like it at all.
I Won't lie and say he was a flawless poster. He did say some stupid/awkward things, but nothing that deserved to be met with flat-out harassment. Some people offered advice and often the advice was ignored, but that does not mean that anyone should resort to personal insults- harassment like that is childish and needlessly hostile. And it got to the point where even totally innocuous posts made by him were met with shit flinging, and this would set him off and people would get pissed at him for acting up- denying the fact that it was their harassment that caused it. They'd tell him to just ignore it, when damn near every post he made was met with insults, and in reality it should have been the people who were upset by him in the beginning that should have let it go. And then there were the people who tried to justify their hostility by saying it's "helping him". Shut up. Personal insults were not helping anything. To make matters worse it seemed he was not emotionally stable, possibly depressed or at the very least expressed how upset the treatment he recieved made him- and yet people continued harshly bashing him. And for what? He made "bad posts". Disgusting.
Overall the whole thing was a shitshow of people making a stupidly big deal out of an awkward, inexperienced, yet overall harmless and innocent poster and then trying to justify their horrible behavior. It just goes to show how belligerent this place can be. Its like people just needed a runt to kick around. He should have been ignored, yet people just felt the need to make him into a punching bag and it caused the whole scenario to spiral out of control.
At the very least his ban will keep him from being harassed further.

heh
College isn't all that great. Just more school, but because you're an adult now people expect you to be one, as if you unlocked all that knowledge the moment you left your parents' home for more than a few days. If you can't handle the new responsibilities, you get weeded out and have to try again.
And fucking christ, the costs...

Well, Fire Emblem isn't really an RTS imo, more of a Tactics styled game but I can totally see why people wouldn't dig it.

A brilliant post. But despite that, it'll be a rum go if people even think of changing their attitudes in this regard. I mean look at what happened with Dub, who became Swog 2.0 to many other of the same people you've accused in your post. Worse to happen is that they'll just find somebody else to shit on, calling them 'Swog 3.0' or some other nonsense along those lines. If you ask me, the people who've been around long enough think that it's funny to harass fellows like that are the ones who need to understand that what they're doing is heartless, immature, and just plain rude.

I never once harassed or insulted him but he always took my advice the worst way possible and reacted hostilely or simply ignored me past spending the time to dumb my advice no matter how mildly I worded it.

To be fair he was quite labile at the time, what with the constant harassment. He could have also viewed it as being elaborate sarcasm as well, given how much other people were persecuting him.
Or else he simply had no intention of changing the way he posted, which would be more obvious, given that he said on multiple occasions 'I can't change the way I post' so there's that as well. I still say he didn't deserve the harsh treatment that he did receive at the hands of those who were more openly hostile towards him.

Honestly I think it's more this than the first one. And I completely agree with that last part. He definitely deserved none of the harassment, though I can understand that at least from some of those people it was more out of frustration from him outright ignoring their advice. (Still doesn't make it okay, just more understandable.)
I think that it isn't all that bad when people type shit like "^^, xD, O_o".
unless they overuse it

Fire Emblem is a turn-based strategy game, not a real-time strategy game.

It adds some emotion when you're texting at least. Since texting is a pretty shitty form of communication, any aid it can get is good.
