"Egalitarianism" or "Equalism" as alternatives to feminism are a joke in general. And that's to say nothing of MRAs.
is there a difference between feminism and egalitarianism other than the latter term just describing it better?
You've seriously just come to this realisation, how did you not know this. I also hate peanut butter and nutella, fight me.
I'm allergic to both of those.
is there a difference between feminism and egalitarianism other than the latter term just describing it better?
Not really. Some Egalitarians lean more towards being MRAs then feminists but for the most part it's just a re-wording of the same ideals that ends up confusing people.
also you could say the same about sci-fi being the same exact thing too: it's basically ships, space, aliens, guns, advanced technology. You guys are being way too broad when it comes to genre.
It might be a case of soft SF vs hard SF, soft fantasy vs hard fantasy. Most sci-fi I read and watch has nothing to do with outer space or aliens.
also you could say the same about sci-fi being the same exact thing too: it's basically ships, space, aliens, guns, advanced technology. You guys are being way too broad when it comes to genre.
except that all of what you said is kind of necessary for sci-fi? how are you gonna do science fiction without advanced technology?
except that all of what you said is kind of necessary for sci-fi? how are you gonna do science fiction without advanced technology?
so it's kind of necessary to do fantasy things with knights, dragons, magic, etc.
so it's kind of necessary to do fantasy things with knights, dragons, magic, etc.
Uh not really. The point is that sci-fi needs to be based on science because that's literally what it stands for. I don't see how you'd do space exploration without spaceships, how you'd create a vast universe without alien life, or why technology would regress (unless it's some sort of apocalyptic world but that's a specific scenario). But in fantasy you can do literally everything, yet it's always the same thing. There's no need for people with pointy ears or knights with enchanted swords, the only thing I guess is necessary is to have magic as a way to explain things but even that doesn't mean you need bearded wizards in robes
I hear the exact came shit with sci-fi too. It's all just the exact same that you're mentioning for me. Space ships, vast exploration, it's good but it's just a meh to me. That's all I know sci-fi to be, a giant meh. And while it's great and cool, fantasy is my thing and always will be. Specifically if it's a good story too. I've seen TONS of good fantasy things that are different from one another, but with sci-fi all I see is boring-ass space ships, space, guns, aliens. DnD and the Dragonlance novels were my life throughout my middle and highschool years and I could never get into Star Wars or Star trek or anything similar. It just wasn't interesting.
is there a difference between feminism and egalitarianism other than the latter term just describing it better?
Really the difference is the people who follow them. All platforms, even mens rights activism advocate gender equality on paper. But quite a few people who claim to be "egalitarian" or "equalist" tend to display misogyny to a degree (Not all though of course), and they also abuse the ever-loving shit out of strawmans when they denounce feminism.
I thought the Force was much more interesting when it was basically super powers, instead of just being midichlorions in the blood stream.
Isn't Sci-Fi just futuristic fantasy? I mean if you put elves in the medieval ages, its fantasy. Then if elves are in the future on a magic spaceship, its suddenly sci-fi.
It's not supposed to be, but sadly quite a lot of what currently passed for sci-fi (I'm looking at you two Star Wars and Mass Effect) are basically just that. Actually sci-fi would be things like 2001: A Space Odyssey, or Unwind.
I thought the Force was much more interesting when it was basically super powers, instead of just being midichlorions in the blood stream.
I thought everyone thought this way. The unpopular opinion would be to say that midichlorians are cooler.
these posts about sci fi are makin me roight annoyed gosh darn
then do something else
Isn't Sci-Fi just futuristic fantasy? I mean if you put elves in the medieval ages, its fantasy. Then if elves are in the future on a magic spaceship, its suddenly sci-fi.
well mostly just this one, esp. since it was brought up like a page ago. this is just fantasy in space, no sci-fi IMO. i really dislike how stuff like mass effect has turned sci fi into basically space LOTR. i mean, mass effect is fine, but it's pretty bad sci-fi is my point.
I like corduroy pants
Barbecue sauce tastes like toxic butthole.
Barbecue sauce tastes like toxic butthole.
So you're an admitted ass eater? Welcome to the club
Do you know the song Time after Time by Cindy Lauper? Well.. One of the oldest bands that I liked for quite some time made a cover of that song and by the looks of it not many people liked. To be honest I Think it's a great cover of that song. I mean just give in a listen! Is not THAT bad is it?
So you're an admitted ass eater? Welcome to the club
truthfully you could never have too much ass
And Dragonlance is WAAAAY superior to LOTR
Fucking fight me [editline]9th January 2015[/editline]
Barbecue sauce tastes like toxic butthole.
Give me your address so I can go to your house and punch your stupid mouth full of barbecue sauce.
lotr is an overrated piece of garbage, come inside me bro. :v:
lotr is an overrated piece of garbage, come inside me bro. :v:
but how?
but how?
probably because its popular
probably because its popular
Because they're mediocre movies.
Star Wars and Mass Effect

stuff like mass effect has turned sci fi into basically space LOTR
Wait, what? Unlike Star Wars, where the official explanation of the advanced tech is lol who gives a shit, Mass Effect has pretty decent explanations for almost all of the tech, FTL travel, biotics, element zero, the weaponry, hell even English-speaking aliens are at the very least given mention. I mean, it's not always completely, 100% plausible, but it's not really any worse than say Star Trek. Sure, you have to go looking for some of it, but it's all there, in-game.
Because they're mediocre movies.
Again, since it hasn't been answered, how?
