Diablo's design in Diablo 3 was great
Yes I loved Diablo's ass.
SWTOR is a great MMO and really doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
I really dislike sandwich shops, and honestly I find it kind of depressing that those places can stay in business.

I know this is unpopular opinions thread but why?
9/11 was an inside job.
9/11 was an inside job.
My parents want the US to declare war on Taiwan.
They still think that Taiwan is behind 9/11.
Modern RTS games are all boring.
90's people.
They don't want to move on. They want their Zelda's and Marios.
They hate anything that tries to make it different. So for them, rose tinted nostalgia goggles, and same old same old is the way to go.
This is a seriously stupid generalization. Do you really think that is the reason people like older games and it couldn't possibly be people actually have fun with them still?

I think his point is that people become too attached to games like that and dont broaden their horizons to more rwcent games just because theyre newer
i think that call of duty is a decent franchise that is fun for what it is, and it gets way too much flak from people who think that it's the pure reason the gaming community is the way it is.

But that doesn't mean it is nostalgia goggles or whatever the hell it was he said. They are just fun games, and of course people are going to prefer games where the gameplay is something they enjoy.
It's certainly not always "lol rose-tinted nostalgia goggles" as he implied.
I think his point is that people become too attached to games like that and dont broaden their horizons to more rwcent games just because theyre newer
I personally just don't often enjoy newer games simply because they don't feel right to me. I like the occasional games like Super Meat Boy, Audiosurf, Portal 2, Burnout Paradise, and Fable III but I'm more likely to enjoy games like Doom, the Donkey Kong Country series on SNES, Super Mario World, Mario Bros. 3 (the All-Stars version preferably), or Yoshi's Island. Not simply because of nostalgia or anything. Simply because I legitimately enjoy those games even after all these years. Those last 7 games combined have more play time logged in them than probably any other games I've played.
On the flip side though, I do enjoy the Ys series remakes far more than the old originals. (Partly because all except Ys III for the SNES were Japan only but that's beside the point. :v:) And retro games like someone mentioned are perfectly fine. The issue with them comes when the devs are only going for the retro look out of laziness. Some games like VVVVVV are really good games and the graphics style is really fitting for it. Terraria is another alright example, most of the issues with how that one looks are simply an issue with Redigit's programming (tiles not lining up right with other nearby tiles) or clashing art styles from having different artists.
I honestly don't think there's a lot of people who simply stick to older games and never try anything new. Two of my irl best friends are just as into those older games that I mentioned as I am, they play even more newer games than I do. I don't know a single person who actually does that really.
Edit: I just thought of a decent example of a game that isn't simply nostalgia: Chrono Trigger. I'd heard of it a lot but never played it until around 2010 on the DS remake. Despite it being so old even then I still think it's one of the best rpg games I've ever played. That isn't simply nostalgia seeing as I never played it until the last few years.

Who does that
The closest thing I've seen someone do that with is my friend not liking Halo for some dumbass reason like the fanbase tends to say it's better than Half-Life or some shit like that, I don't know. And He's making it sound like old games are fucking awful. TBH, I prefer Half-Life 1 over Dead Space in terms of everything from movement to atmosphere to story to customization. By his logic, Dead Space, a game where you can't jump, most of the scares are jump scares, and the camera is glued to your shoulder with no way to change it is better than Half-Life, where you can do pretty much fucking anything from the console. Want thirdperson? Go ahead. Camera too close/far from where you want it? Move it! Want to jump? Go ahead! Etc.
Not trying to show fanboyism or put down games here, just using examples. There are plenty of other games that could be used as references, but I just happened to be thinking about these two when I wrote this.
quake combat is bad, its essentially just running and jumping until you blast someone's face in with a rocket in a fast speed
pretty much this
i think arena fast-paced shooter games are awful and i have no idea why people idolize games like doom and quake and unreal. i hate dumb keycard hunts in labyrinth maps, with multiplayer modes that are basically just who has memorized the map/weapon locations/ and who can run the fastest
also the dumb jokes i see everywhere that are like "haha doom guy is the MOST BADASS VIDEOGAME CHARACTER haha look at this infograph that shows he can run at 60 miles per hour he's so cool nobody can compete"
i also don't like the revived 90's shooter games, like the rise of the triad. i tried out the new one, and it's just fucking boring. yeah, you're running around at mach 4 with wacky guns but it's just not satisfying at all. there's no semblance behind the violence, so i don't feel like i'm achieving anything by shooting like 30 guys

Did sandwich shops kill your dog or something?
Have you SEEN sprite sheets for DooM?
[t]https://soulsphere.org/img/doomfaces.png[/t]
This is just for a HUD element, not even a gameplay object
[t]http://www.spriters-resource.com/resources/sheets/25/27875.png[/t]
These are the sprites for just one enemy. With a fuckton of enemies and animated entities and weapons, I think you're giving games like this less credit than they deserve.
I have always wondered weather or not it is harder to make a 3d model than a spritesheet.
Or if it is about the same time it takes.

Partially agree. Multiplayer has really gone to shit recently, but campaign/spec ops is still really badass. Multiplayer could become fun again, they just need to change some of the mechanics and stop releasing overpriced DLC
I have always wondered weather or not it is harder to make a 3d model than a spritesheet.

It depends on the simplicity of the sprite sheets and models in question. Well animated high quality sprites in general are harder to find artists for anymore so in that regard 3d models would be easier. With a model you do have to make the model and texture then rig and animate it but once you have that part done it can basically do any action simply by manipulating the rigging.
With a sprite it needs a brand new set of frames for every single new action. A good example of that would actually be Doom like BFG9000 posted. The imp there is fairly simple while the archvile has about 4-6x the amount of frames. And those are only with a frame for 8 directions when the engine can actually handle them for 32 different directions too.
DJ Hero is actually a really good game.

Not as good as Papers Please :v:
I'm amazed at how this is an unpopular opinion thread, yet pretty much every posts has many people agreeing. :v:
Sgt_MarkIV should join the Aeons of Death team

How are those at all relatable?
How are those at all relatable?
Its an inside joke
Fighting games are boring.
I think that every White American that thinks they are good at Dota 2 are actually very terrible. The Facepunch Dota 2 community is a great example of this.
Skeleton King is the best hero in Dota 2
