literally everything wrong with FP have an opinion? dumb see anything as a problem? dumb defend your beliefs? dumb have an opinion not as radical or, god forbid, contrary to the popularly accepted one of FP? evil incarnate. if there's ever, for example, a thread about homosexuality, if your post is perceived of implying anything short of absolutely equal rights which pretty much acknowledge gay or lesbian people pretty much superior to straight people, you are instantly vilified into something worse than Hitler I remember when being straight up militant atheist used to be the cool thing to do back in the day on FP, and everyone was furiously jerking themselves and each other off about how god is so not real and the bible is fiction but then these same people started doing it on reddit and now being an easy going agnostic who doesn't have an opinion except for those that have already been carefully crafted for the user and prepared for consumption is the minimal acceptable norm of being recognized as someone who does not deserve complete social exile and usually death
HOW DO I DISABLE RATINGS????
HOW DO I DISABLE RATINGS????
ratings encourage people to just press a button instead of coming up with an actual reply
ratings encourage people to just press a button instead of coming up with an actual reply
better than having a hundred posts saying "yes I agree", "no I disagree", "I politely think you're a fucking moron". some people have nothing to add to the conversation
I think that anyone who writes or types "lol" should be executed on the spot.
lol this post quit being so pedantic
Napoleon Dynamite is a terrible movie.
I really like all rap and am extremely bored by all rock variants. And when I say all rap, I mean pretty much all. I find "started from the bottom" actually really cool and french montana isn't actually that bad. I have been hit so many times when I don't know who the lead whatever is led whatever. Like I know enough to know the historical impact but I hate it when people accuse me of not being part of their fandom that is so massive that they forget it is only a fandom.
;41970232']I don't know about you but I find most video game enemies non-human to begin with. They rarely have any character and are just dime a dozen cannon fodder grunts thrown at you. They have no relation, no soul for you to feel bad for. Just drones, really. The same thing doesn't apply to say, [sp]Pavel from Metro.[/sp] That guy had some character and made you think twice about his fate. He felt more like a person. I think of characters with actual depth in personality and deeper relations to me, as a player, as people. Maybe it's just me, idk.
This isn't how you're supposed to do spoiler tags, you need to put the topic of the spoiler before the tags, then put the spoiler inside the tags, not put the spoiler in the tag then the topic of the spoiler while they're still inside the tags. How were people supposed to know that you were gonna spoil something from Metro?
Shetland seems like a shit place to live.
unpopular opinions should be kept in sensationalist headlines
I use "lol" and several faces when chatting because the internet doesn't carry emotion (or not yet, at least). It is hard to pick up on emotion or even perhaps sarcasm with text. When people type in a perfectly sterile and "official" way then it just gives me the impression they're just talking in monotones with no emotion or that they're not interested. But hey that's just me.
Maybe that's why my lovely humour is sometimes seen as rude when written? Either way the term "lol" is associated with idiocy in my mind. Faces aren't so bad. Thing is my favourite , ^_^ , i use both sincerely and with irony. I don't understand how language creation works. It's realy hard for me to say Russian, arabic, japanese or swiss german words. They're made of difficult sounds in rapid sequence... they find it difficult to use sounds i find simple. How the fuck does this work? All these foreign languages have these bullshit rules that nobody in their right mind would create. The germans have Five tenses, the japanese don't use plurals... ARGH WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK WERE THEY THINKING? Conclusion: English is the best.

It's not the evil people that is the problem in our world. It is those who does nothing to stop it.
It's not the evil people that is the problem in our world. It is those who does nothing to stop it.
There is no such thing as evil people. There's just desperate people.
better than having a hundred posts saying "yes I agree", "no I disagree", "I politely think you're a fucking moron". some people have nothing to add to the conversation
I feel this is certainly true, and the reason why we have ratings. But I do feel like the ratings get a lot of misuse. The problem is, most people rate a post the same rating the first user gave it. Let us say, for example, a video gets put up in the Videos section. That first rating will determine almost entirely the communities reaction. If someone rates it funny, others will likely rate it funny and think it is funny, not because they genuinely think that, but because of peer pressure. That, and many people get their perceptions colored by a rating before they have even watched the video/read the post. I admit it because I have done it too. There have been times where I click on a link, see dumbs, rate it dumb, and don't even watch the video. It is just some robotic process that our brains seem to use. That, and I think people don't understand what the dumb rating is for. Just because you disagree with an opinion doesn't mean it is dumb. It is dumb when it it littered with spelling mistakes and fallacies about actual facts, like if someone said "The sky is green" that would be dumb because it is blue and that is a fact. But I digress. Even I rate people dumb when I disagree, and I fall victim to the same robotic ticking of the ratings, so I am far from exempt from any of this.

While a rating does seem to make people more likely to rate a post, in the case of your example it's more likely a simple matter of statistics. If it's something the general populace of Facepunch finds unfunny then it is far more likely that the first person to rate it will be one of those people.
;41976267']There is no such thing as evil people. There's just desperate people.
Going to have to stop you there. I can understand that a lot of criminals and people thrown into shit situations might be desperate, there are however people that can be considered pure evil. Take Albert Fish for example. He killed and ate children purely for the hell of it. Mentally disturbed sure. Desperate, probably not.
ratings encourage people to just press a button instead of coming up with an actual reply
I believe that many people are more willing to agree/disagree with pre-existing arguments than bring something new to the table as new things generally relate immediately to something they already agreed with previously.

a youtube related one i've just discovered: OMFGcata is not funny and NorthernLion has 400+ half-hour episodes of the binding of isaac on his youtube channel and he's not funny either how do these people do it, i just don't understand
Northerlion is not really intended to be funny anyway, I like his comments on new games and he does a good job.
I like taking it in the butt
Yeezus was one of Kanye's best
NorthernLion has 400+ half-hour episodes of the binding of isaac on his youtube channel and he's not funny either
How in the world could 200 hours of any game not get old and repetitive? Especially for a Let's Play.
How in the world could 200 hours of any game not get old and repetitive?
Good gameplay, length and mods. With Isaac its the achievments pushing alot of people.
Good gameplay, length and mods. With Isaac its the achievments pushing alot of people.
But 200 hours for an LP is pushing it really. Especially on a game like that. I could maybe understand it as a game he's playing personally but for an LP that would just get old quick. I only watch one LPer on a regular basis and his longest LPs 96 and 90 videos respectively. None of that was grinding for achievements at all. That was simply beating the games. (And that's not even touching on length at all. Average length is 12-15 minutes for those two LPs, the very longest is about 28.) I just don't see how an LPer could possibly entertain viewers with 200 hours of the same exact game when judging by my experience with the game (I didn't particularly like it compared to Meat Boy) it might take 12 hours or so max to beat it.
I don't like cake at all.
I don't really give a rat's ass about electric vehicles.
Chocolate is usually pretty boring and i don't understand why people like it so much.
