Depends really. We never really went too in depth in a country's culture (Unless the class was about that culture) and mainly focused on events that happened.
Though in middle school, I did have classes when we learned about the cultures of ancient civilizations like Egypt and Rome. We even had lessons on feudal Japan and China.
