Not 87c hot tho. That's way too much.
My first laptop idled at that point as well before the POST beeped a processor failure I'm sure was caused by frying itself to a crisp. I mentioned this a couple of times as to why I will recommend avoiding AMD processors. [editline]e[/editline] The bugger even left marks on my desk where the vents were!

Even moreso when you have a problematic one like many HP AMD laptops. A good blow with canned air/air compressor for a couple minutes is usually enough to do the job.

It just crunched numbers hot and not even using much processing power.
I can recommend Garry's Mod. However, you may want to ease down on the addons for your laptop. You could also try older Sims games. (Sims 3 is too "heavy" on graphics)
Yeah, I've been trying to really get to the bottom of that issue. Taking it to a friend's this weekend that knows way more than I do, to clean out the fan and all that. Anyone know of some applications or something that can check that shit out or something? I'm not that great with the whole hardware-thing, so I'm not sure what to look for.
DESCENT I and DESCENT II, Marathon-engine based games, Freespace I and II, MDK, Bauldur's Gate, Diablo I and II. Not 87c hot tho. That's way too much.
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=868683&p=19259406&viewfull=1#post19259406
Also, so far have gotten FTL and Cave Story+, both run really well. I'm thinking CanYouRunIt? may be lying about some stuff... even though it DID say I could run both of those. I'll try some of these others you guys have given me once I get it cleaned out and cooled down. Thanks, everyone!

(Then it died but yeah) And since that's a computer with horrid cooling problems, that's saying something. I have an AMD in the computer I'm using right now and it has yet to even touch 65c even on really demanding shit and it's on a crappy stock cooler after only 2 cleanings in the span of almost 4 years, so v:v:v
Serious Sam Classics: Revolution http://store.steampowered.com/app/227780/ Don't mind it's an Early Access game. It's basically original SS with improvements and more levels.
yeah except deus ex needs some fuckery or else the game will run too fast
AMD Dual Core Optimizer, first link on page. http://support.amd.com/en-us/search/utilities
Download a NES emulator and play some great oldschool games like Bubble Bobble or the Mario/Zelda franchise.
Hotline Miami and Receiver are very fun games and it doesn't seem like you'll have any problem running them.
Hotline Miami is actually on sale at 85% for the price of $1.49 right now. At the very least, I'd recommend getting that whilst you decide what other games to buy.
Cataclysm: Dark days Ahead and Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup are two rouge likes that will run. Both are pretty fun and FREE. Cataclysm has more of a learning curve imo.
just found a game called "The Hunter.com" gonna play seems p. fun
Grand theft auto 1-3 And maybe Vice City.
From my experience playing on a shitty sony vaio for a while that barely had 4gb of ram, here's a list of games that worked very well on them : - System Shock 2 (already mentioned but whatever) - Cogs - Worms Armageddon - GTA Vice City - Civilization IV - Civilization V (at lowest settings) - Terraria (stuttered quite a bit, but still playable) - Mark of the ninja - FTL Faster Than Light - Gnomoria - Gunpoint
