I could see this happening: you: *opens computer case* facepuncher: ok, search for the thing that looks like: *picture of a harddrive* you: I don't see one of those! facepuncher: it disapeared? you: the wires look like they were chewed! facepuncher: O.O

System Restore to a time when the drive functioned. If that doesn't work... Open up your case, yank the DVD drive out plug it back in and report back.
