Are there any legitimately depressing games that you've played?

I know it was posted earlier, but DEFCON is of the most depressing and most terrifying things I've ever played.

I thought the walking dead first season was sad as shit.
In my restless dreams, I see that town.
Silent Hill. [sp]2 for PS2[/sp]
And here's me getting legit depressed at CoD, fuck.
I'm not gonna lie, [sp]the nuke[/sp] in CoD4 was a good scene.
Well, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. really is one of those games that really can get your emotions moving. I've only played SoC, but I'll be getting CoP, sometime soon.
CoP is the most depressing, knowing that no STALKER sequel will be made during the game outro. Not to mention that the outro music has this kind of "wrap up" feeling for the whole series, from the first time you woke up inside Sid's bunker, the moment you stepped outside and looked at the Rookie Village, to Clear Sky with the great swamp and finally, Call of Pripyat. Everything has been done. The secrets have finally been revealed. Memories coming back, only to fade away.
We have Russians mods though so don't worry.

God, I agree.
The Darkness.
Aliens: Colonial Marines
[sp]Not that I actually played it[/sp]
maybe you should actually play it then
MOTHER 3
gmod
The Darkness, especially during the Hell levels.
Also, Max Payne 1 & 2.
Bastion and Transistor.
First made me cry at the end, second was just depressing the whole way through.
In a random list :
Prey
Hotline Miami
MGS3 (the ending only)
Wolfenstein The New Order
I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream
Little Inferno (the fucking toy catalog)
The Darkness
Red Dead Redemption
Max Payne (all of them)
The last of us
parts of Mass Effect 3
OFF
It's got really good elements that make it very eerie, but by the end it genuinely got me feeling weird.
Helps that it's inaccurately translated from French, so that makes it all the more strange.
I would say it fits the part of a creepy-genre kind of game, but it certainly has a depressing ending.
I recently finished playing the Mass Effect series and yeah gotta agree with some people and say ME3 was depressing at points, overall I really liked it but you really get to know the characters and when you lose some of them you really care.
Portal 1 ending made me cry, not sure why though.
Gears of War 2.
Papers Please.
I picked it up, played for an hour and put it down feeling like shit. It's a great game but man it's bleak.
Batman: Arkham City.
It's not a depressing game in itself, but the ending is where it's at.
It's because [sp]the Joker dies in the most depressing way possible[/sp].
Braid
Riven
Its really depressing to explore a world that is continually falling apart around you, and even more so when the only way you can make your way out and bring the trap book is to destroy it after exploring it and all of its wonders for such a long time. Unlike its predecessor where you hop from place to place, Riven builds a really strong attachment to the environment and I felt really depressed finishing the game.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue
kingdom hearts 358/2 days
The ending in those games were pretty sad
honestly dear esther got me a little worked up once i figured out what was happening.
I finished Prey but can't remember what happens
Why was it sad?
penumbra overture really got to me when [sp] red got incinerated [/sp]
fuck man that was insanely sad
[editline]9th August 2014[/editline]
i feel bad for not finishing CoP though, i did a few missions in pripyat and felt satisfied with the game and stopped. i should replay it because i didn't feel anything at all what you felt, op
Did you play the rest of the Penumbra games? Shit gets really freaky in Requiem where it's heavily implied that [sp]the story happens inside Phillip's head until he makes the right choice.[/sp].

[sp]For me, I was rooting for the couple all the way through. The fact you had to kill your own girlfriend due to being grafted onto some beast then become the organic ship and then fly yourself into the sun(?) was quite the emotional rollercoaster towards the end. Besides that, the overall art direction and the fact you could "see" stories in the victims throughout the ship just added to the depth of the story. Easily one of the best SP stories I have played. - I may be slightly off, I haven't played it in years.[/sp]
