Well, it was kind of easy for me because she told me out of nowhere "I'm going to focus on school and work right now, a relationship doesn't factor in right now, no matter how amazing the person is, but it doesn't have to stop us being friends or even best friends"

You do, but is that really what you want? Anyone who's able to do that to someone they care about is trouble.
Like this chick I'm talking about, she treats people like shit and then rationalizes it to herself to avoid feeling guilty about it. It took her two weeks to convince herself that she hadn't done anything wrong to me, and at that point she IMed me like "hi!!! why did you block me on FB :(" and I was like "because you've been an ass to me and I'm not interested in staying friends unless you can man up to what you did and apologize"
