give it a shot?
Chuu2 is an extremely enjoyable show, same with Sakurasou, SAO, ect.
It's tough for me to pick the anime of the season, I SERIOUSLY loved Chuu2, but SAO surprisingly made a comeback for me. And Sakurasou is slowly becoming one of my favorite shows in its category/genre.

You mean you are not one?
I couldn't really pick an anime of the year since this I've only been into it since October. I've only watched the recent stuff so I wouldn't know much about anything else from earlier in the year.
For the recent anime, Girls und Panzer is only good for the tank combat. The plot and characters aren't that great. OP is nice though. I'm biased towards saying it is excellent simply because it features a Panzer IV. Sometimes I really do believe I could have been a much better tank commander though.
Chuu-2 has delightful and and rage-inducing characters in equal measure. Characters get deeper at a nice rate and the plot has direction but I can't really guess what will happen next. It's also fucking hilarious for reasons that HeroicPillow mentioned above.
Tonari was a story about a guy who really closely resembles (in both appearance and peronsality) somebody at school that I really hate. That was enough to put me off but the non-biased reasons are good too. For starters, there's a serious plot problem when I favour side characters over the main two.
Upotte!! Pfffft... I judged the characters by their real life counterparts so there's obviously some bias there. I don't need to say anything else, you know what it was like.
I'm only watching SAO because I'm looking for closure to the story. I'd rather that I had dropped it earlier.
BTOOOM was alright, characters were bearable and on occasion it made me think. I'm willing to finish it. A little heavy on the [sp]raping[/sp] though.
Sakurasou is on par with Chuu-2 in terms of likable characters. Main character wanted to [sp]do game design[/sp] and [sp]failed BADLY.[/sp] He is also surrounded by a shitload of talented but weird girls and not many guys. Very much like me in real life. :tinfoil:
Code:Breaker was a dud. Average concept, a little creepy sometimes. Hard to keep up with motives of characters.
Out of those, I would say Sakurasou (even though I adore Girlz underpantz and Chuubidoo) is my favourite for my first wave of anime.

gunslinger girl was ok imo, i gave it a 7/10
For me, I would consider either nichibros or chihayafuru to be AotY 2012
shinsekai yori doesn't end until 2013, so I can't count it regardless of how good it might turn out to be.

As long as it started airing in the autumn season and doesn't span more than 2 seasons then it's part of the year it aired in.
For me the anime of the year so far is either Daily Lives of Highschool Boys or Binbougami Ga.

Black Lagoon
If we're talking about animes of the year, then I choose Space Brothers, hands down.
Although I also enjoyed (and I'm enjoying) Jojo, Joshiraku, Kyousogiga, Nichibros, Tsuritama, Magi, Kokoro Connect, Bimbougami and Hyouka; in that order (From most to least)
Black Lagoon
already watching that one.

Just finished watching this.
I guess its quite okay but I personally think the character design is slightly disappointing and could be better.
7.5/10

For the vote I was planning on doing, i was basing it off of "Anime that ended in 2012, regardless of start date".
The "official" vote does the opposite, where it's "All anime [that started airing] from December 1 of the year beforehand to November 30" ignoring the end date.
I feel like if the anime hasn't ended yet, you can't sufficiently say it's going to continue to be at the same caliber as when it was voted on. But this method adds the problem where an anime can have 90% of it's episodes in 2011, with only a few in 2012, and still be up for the 2012 vote.
I also believe that you can't do a proper review of a series until it's finished airing, or at the very least 75% finished. A notable exception would be long-running anime (like a year+), where I would consider a minimum of ~50 episodes would be okay for it to be reviewed.
I might change it to match the official vote; i just disagree with the typical voting criteria. I'm still not sure which is better.
In all seriousness, I have to agree with Nichibros.
I love me a good comedy.

I wonder what the worst anime of the year is.

Great fucking show, but it's not ending anytime soon (it doesn't have any announcements on how long it will last) and is as thus unlikely to be a 2012 (or any year) show as such.

Because I said I couldn't consider shinsekai to be a 2012 aoty candidate, and you stated your own criteria for what you consider to be 2012 candidates. So I went on to explain what my criteria was, and why I chose it.
I just mentioned the vote because that is where I based my criteria from and it seemed relevant.
