Wasn't [sp]CERN already experimenting on time travel before Okabe did the first D-Mail?[/sp]
I'm sure the [sp]IBN 5100 has something to do with this but I can't remember why CERN wanted it so bad.[/sp]
I'm going off this by memory so bear with any mistakes I might make.
Yes, [sp]CERN was already experimenting with time travel but as the emails Daru got from the server mentioned, they couldn't send a human being anywhere in time. Well, they could but they turned into jelly. Kurisu's theory held the last pieces of the puzzles so to say. She didn't know about CERN experimenting with time travel so she never knew she had what they needed.[/sp]
As for [sp]the IBN 5100, Suzu needed it to decode the reports that documented CERN's progress on making a fully functioning time machine and thus determine how much time she had left. Besides, CERN was never after the IBN 5100, they were after the time machine since Okabe and his homies basically did their work for them[/sp]
All of this is assuming my memory is serving me right of course.

Most of it is right, but [sp]SERN was after Okabe and his friends since they did the work on the time machine, and they wanted them to research time machines for SERN themselves.[/sp]

Today is a good day.
IMO, it grows on you. First season was pretty shit, second was somewhat better, and the movie was actually pretty good, though I think that it's just something you acquire a taste for, it was all probably of the same quality.
I liked S1 the most and kinda hated the movie so yeah, probably. Although the LNs/short stories/canon doujins etc. tend to be better than any of the 501st stuff since Yoshika Sue doesn't ruin everything for everyone ever.
It was painful watching the movie hype threads go from "I hope it's about the 502nd!", to "Well at least Yoshika is probably just a side character.", and finally "Yoshika has more screen time than anyone else and non-501st cameos last no more than a couple of minutes.".
both the strike witches seasons follow the same pattern:
episodes 1 & 2 : plot
episodes 3, 4 & 5 : fan service with some plot
episode 6 : Sanya & Eila (seasons 2 is better if only for the song )
episode 7 : fan service, fan service and more fan service
episode 8, 9, 10 : fan service with some plot
episodes 11 & 12 : plot
also hopefully season 3 (probably karlsland) will tell us if yoshika's dad is alive or not

episode 7 of both seasons were great
historically accurate, too.
I downloaded Strike Witches season one so I could check it out, so far I'm not even past the OP, let me get this straight...
To fight the murderous aliens that came to destroy humanity, the government assembled a team of young girls to run around without pants in robotic boots that give them fluffy ears and tails?
Sounds reasonable
kill me now
apparently the strikers need to have direct contact, so its either no pants or really thin leggings.
though i agree with the whole no pants to school thing.
also the ears and tails are suppose to be like familiars
found what i was looking for:
tv tropes to the rescue
The technical explanation is their legs aren't actually inside the Striker Units they wear due to the space needed for the magical engine to operate; they're instead shunted to an alternate dimension of shorts, and this can't be done with anything that isn't skintight.
