So, I'm going pull an all nighter, watch the other 5 episodes of nisemongatari, all of yuru yuri and read 17,18,19 and 20 of Sgt Frog, I've already read 17, can't remember if I've read 18, but I have it on my shelf so I s'pose I have, but just don't remember it, and 19 and 20 where birthday presents.
Nono, I said jokingly, that's an attitude to what is being said, not that what is being said is a pure joke. You know, like taking something lightly. Anyways, blabla on that. No, I didn't make it as a joke, because that would mean it had a punchline or funny point, I made it as a hyperbole, and a hyperbole is not a very serious thing. Thus I'm jokingly generalizing any over-the-top gory show into the 3 capitalized words "SUPER BRUTAL MURDER".
Alright so if you're done with that, how about going back to the original point a "SUPER BRUTAL MURDER" show can't be classified as comedy, just because it has all the elements that you define in "SUPER BRUTAL MURDER", why does that mean it can't be a comedy as well? [editline]30th November 2012[/editline]
So, I'm going pull an all nighter, watch the other 5 episodes of nisemongatari, all of yuru yuri and read 17,18,19 and 20 of Sgt Frog, I've already read 17, can't remember if I've read 18, but I have it on my shelf so I s'pose I have, but just don't remember it, and 19 and 20 where birthday presents.
literally a toothbrush.
over-the-top
"Over-the-top" is a word that tends to have humourous undertones, though.
literally a toothbrush.
What? Oh right even though I didn't ask, I will need one of those.
Alright so if you're done with that, how about going back to the original point a "SUPER BRUTAL MURDER" show can't be classified as comedy, just because it has all the elements that you define in "SUPER BRUTAL MURDER", why does that mean it can't be a comedy as well?
I already explained that. I feel that speaks for itself really. SUPER BRUTAL MURDER clearly pinpoints the exaggeration and general meaning behind it, that it is a show that has an extreme focus on blood, gore and murder, through that exaggeration any hint of comedy, cuteness and anything nice is rid off. And again, it goes SO FUCKING CLEARLY WELL IN WITH THE CONTEXT. When I'm talking about what shows people don't want to watch when watching a comedy recommandation and I use SUPER BRUTAL MURDER as an example of a show they wouldn't want to watch, then that withing the context makes it completely fucking clear that there is no comedy in the kind of shows I'm talking about. This is why I think both of you are so fucking retarded because you completely ignore the context I said it in, and focus on everything else that is completely irrelevant. [editline]1st December 2012[/editline]
"Over-the-top" is a word that tends to have humourous undertones, though.
Yes, do you want 5 pages of arguing about it? Because I'm pretty sure the over-the-topness of shows like Hellsing Ultimate is not a comedy effect, but a badass effect. of course some people will clearly think Hellsing Ultimate is a silly or funny show for it's over-the-topness, but that doesn't make it a comedy.
Sooooo looking for recommendations for a new anime to watch. My favorite animes so far have been Code Geass, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Darker Than Black (Season 1) and Fate/Zero. Something similar to those or just anything that was really good is fine.
Yes, do you want 5 pages of arguing about it?
Sure, because I'd really like to know how SUPER BRUTAL MURDER can be "over-the-top" and rid off any hint of comedy at the same time.
Sure, because I'd really like to know how SUPER BRUTAL MURDER can be "over-the-top" and rid off any hint of comedy at the same time.
Just because there is some comedy in something that doesn't make it a comedy.
I already explained that. I feel that speaks for itself really. Why are you cutting off the other components of the show, those are all relevant. I wouldn't classify CLANNAD as a comedy, as its main focus is Drama and Romance, however it's completely hilarious a lot of the time so I would never leave out that component. When making a recommendation why don't you include all the components and genres of the show so the person can decide for themselves if they think it's worth watching, mostly because, as highly as you think of yourself, your opinion on a show is only your own and other people value other things than you do in a show. Then again I don't understand why anyone would ever take a recommendation from you when you don't even feel that any anime show is deserving of a rating higher than 7 (I gotta thank one of my friends for telling me about that). So the point is entirely moot.
anyone else reading / heard of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei ?

I've got a meeting in 30 minutes, so instead of continuing this silly discussion why don't we all talk about how TTGL is one of the most overrated pieces of meh to ever have been made.
I did read the OP. I was just looking for a personal opinion and what not since there were quite a few there.
Those are the whole thread's personal opinion. We all voted for those. The image ones are the ones with the most vote. Every show in text is sorted based on how many votes they got (the ones furthest to the left has the most).
ok then so if it has an extreme focus on blood and gore why not call it what it is, a horror? Why are you cutting off the other components of the show, those are all relevant. Me saying people don't want to watch a SUPER BRUTAL MURDER show when watching a comedy has nothing to do with treating and talking about shows in general. I just made a goddamn point about the opposite content you wouldn't want to watch when looking for a good show in a category. Why are you so stuck up on this completely irrelevant side-thing that has nothing to do with what I said? What does my recommandations and opinions on show have to do with this? HOLY SHIT. I'm not excluding any show that actually fits within a category. The only category I am bitchy about is the Slice of Life genre because people generally across the board don't quite understand it. The only reason I shoot down shows for being in the wrong category is if they don't belong to it, how do I know? because no website gives it that genre, AND THE PERSON WHO RECOMMENDED IT can't give an argument for why it fits. My own opinion on shows is not affecting the votes that gets in or is cut out of the OP. And this discussion has nothing to do with that either. Then your friends are doesn't know anything. My average score on MAL is 7, yes. But I use the full scale, above or under 7. Take a look for yourself and bitchslap your friends for being stupid. Let's bring in some analysis for you:
If someone are looking for a comedy show, I make sure they don't get a super brutal murder show. It's labeled under a category, and everything that is in that category damn well is that category, so people can actually watch something that is good when they want to watch a show of that kind.
"If someone are looking for a comedy show" Ok, so they want to laugh and have fun when watching their show, they want some good old comedy. "I make sure they don't get a super brutal murder show" To give them those laughs and fun, I make sure super brutal murder shows doesn't get in. "It's labeled under a category, and everything that is in that category damn well is that category" Ok so the show is put under the comedy category, and everything inside that comedy category should damn well be labeled as comedy. "so people can actually watch something that is good when they want to watch a show of that kind" This way we make sure that every show in the category is what they're looking for withing the category, by making sure it's labeled as the category. How to deal with things? But the things you want to deal with are non-existent because you assume shit that isn't there. You bring up points that ignores the context for why I said something in the first place. Refer to my analysis to see why you started with the wrong foot and kept snowballing from there on.
Wow. Clannad is a comedy and how could you possibly say otherwise? It's a sad romantic comedy.
Please don't "wow" me as if that is the dumbest thing you've ever heard. From my point of view clannad is not a comedy, certainly it has comedic elements, but it is not itself a comedy. Also you don't tend to find sad and comedy used to describe the same thing (usually, or at least in my experience.)
By sounding it out, like so: Clannad was not primarily a comedy.
Oh, so now things suddenly have to primarily be something to fall under a genre? Wow, isn't that the exact opposite of what you've been arguing about for the last 500 pages?

Forest Gump for example.
